FBI Season 7 ended with Isobel Castille’s (Alana De La Garza) fate hanging in the balance, but thankfully the wait is over, with Season 8 of the police procedural drama making its long-awaited debut.
There are plenty of new TV shows to stream this month, whether that be Halloween fare with the likes of It: Welcome to Derry or feel-good fun with Nobody Wants This Season 2.
You may also be anticipating the return of The Witcher on Netflix, which sees Liam Hemsworth taking over the role from Henry Cavill. Plus, next month Stranger Things Season 5 will (finally) debut.
But for fans of high-stakes crime dramas, nothing hits quite like FBI. Less than six months after that Season 7 cliffhanger, the long-running CBS series has returned. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Does Isobel die in FBI?
Although it’s not looking good for Isobel in FBI Season 8 Episode 1, ‘Takeover’, the end reveals that she is alive and recovering from her injuries.
You see, in the Season 7 finale, extremist group Forefront infiltrated the FBI and carried out a lethal attack on the agency. An explosion left Isobel’s fate hanging in the balance, but she miraculously recovered… or so we thought.
Right at the end of the episode, Jubal returns to 26 Fed and Isobel follows him, but she starts stumbling over her words before collapsing. Jubal reveals that she has no pulse, leaving viewers fearing that she’d died.
Things don’t appear much better midway through the Season 8 premiere, which aired on CBS last night (October 13), as we learn that Isobel suffered a brain bleed that requires an emergency craniotomy.
However, she does pull through and survives. Sadly, the same can’t be said for one unlucky character…
What happens to Dani in Season 8?
Even though Isobel is alive, Dani (Emily Alabi) dies in the Season 8 premiere, having been shot while dealing with the latest case.
The episode sees Maggie (Missy Peregrym) and OA (Zeeko Zaki) being held hostage while trying to locate a judge’s son. Scola (John Boyd) and Dani arrive to help them, only to wind up in a shootout.
Dani gets hit, but assumes her vest catches the bullet. Later on, she collapses and passes away. Speaking to TV Insider about the death, showrunner Mike Weiss detailed the impact this will have on Scola.
“Losing a partner is always a tough thing. And Scola is going to be feeling the loss of Dani for a while,” he explained.
“But Scola joined the FBI after the loss of his brother. He’s a character who finds ways to grow and honor everyone he’s lost in his daily life as an agent. It’s what makes him an extraordinary asset to the team.”
FBI showrunner teases new cast member Claire Coffee
The outlet asked whether the opening for Scola’s new partner is where cast member Claire Coffee, whose role is currently undisclosed, comes in.
“I won’t spoil future episodes or Claire’s upcoming role, but I can say that she is not looking to join up with the FBI anytime soon… Scola is not going to close off completely when it comes to welcoming new partners,” said Weiss.
“Going back to his experience with loss, he’s a character who has learned to appreciate every small moment with friends and family. That’s the same with every new colleague and partner.”
As for whether the writing team considered killing Isobel off, the showrunner said, “Every year, at the start of a new season, we, the writers, ask ourselves, ‘What is the current dynamic in the show? What happens if it shifts slightly?’
“Isobel holds the entire team together in a lot of ways. We love Alana and her character so much, we never considered writing her off the show. However, we were excited about what it would look like to see her absent from the office, even briefly.
“How does the team react when they lose that center of gravity? Who steps in to fill the void? And of course, we’re thrilled to be welcoming her back to 26 Fed, when she’s ready.”
When is FBI Season 8 Episode 2 out?
New episodes of FBI premiere on Monday nights on CBS. So, Season 8 Episode 2, ‘Captured’, debuts at 9pm ET / 8pm CT on October 20, 2025.
If you don’t have cable, the new episodes will be made available for streaming on Paramount+ the day after their CBS premiere.
