When an elderly woman went missing after an evening walk, her child’s dog helped lead a police officer to where she had fallen during her outing.

Dogs are man’s best friend for a reason, as evidenced by this adorable rescue that’s taking social media by storm.

Authorities in Destin, Florida answered a call about a missing person at 10:30 PM on Thursday, Sept. 25. An elderly man was worried about his 86-year-old wife, who hadn’t returned home after taking her son’s dog, named Eeyore, for a walk in their neighborhood.

“She never takes more than 10 or 15 minutes,” he worriedly told police in body cam footage that was released to the public in early October. “It’s almost an hour now.”

Family dog hailed as ‘hero’ for helping police rescue grandma

Okaloosa County Deputy Devon Miller was the officer on the case, and hopped into her police cruiser to scour the neighborhood for the woman and her dog. It wasn’t long before she spotted the couple’s four-legged companion, who walked up to her vehicle as though he had something to say.

“Hi baby!” Deputy Miller said. “Where’s your Mama?”

As if understanding exactly what to do, Eeyore led the Deputy to the exact spot where his grandma had fallen. As told in a Facebook post from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the woman “took a tumble and injured herself while walking her son’s dog.”

The woman can be heard on the bodycam, seemingly shocked that Eeyore had led Deputy Miller right to her.

“The dog brought you?” she asked, incredulous. “He wouldn’t leave. He kept coming back to me.”

“He ran up to my car and I said, ‘Bring me to your mommy,’ and he ran back here,” Miller explained, earning repeated praises of “good boy” from the two.

The OSCO Facebook page thanked both Deputy Miller and little Eeyore for bringing his grandmother to safety, writing, “The deputy’s body cam video (edited to condense the search) shows how Eeyore’s love and instincts brought the elderly resident the help she needed!”

Officials say the woman was transported to a hospital for evaluation, but no further news about her condition has been publicly revealed.
