Fortnite tried to imitate Doja Cat to promote her new skins, but things didn’t go well after one inappropriate post crossed the line for the singer.
This year’s Fortnitemares event is already stacked, with tons of new cosmetics and collabs dropping soon. Among the biggest highlights are the new Icon Series skins for Doja Cat, who’s not only getting new outfits but will also appear as a new boss on the island.
As usual, Epic’s been hyping up the new icon on social media. But things took a weird turn on X where the official Fortnite account pretended to be ‘taken over’ by Doja Cat.
One particular post has already been deleted, but not before Doja saw it, and clearly, she was not happy. She called it out in the comments, exposing that she wasn’t actually controlling the account at all, straight-up saying it was “cringe” for them to post what they did.
Doja Cat calls out Fortnite over inappropriate social media post
Before Epic officially dropped the Fortnitemares trailer, they revealed Doja’s skins and started promoting them across socials. To keep the hype going, the Fortnite account posted a selfie of Doja and started tweeting as though she had taken over their X account.
At first, it seemed playful. They even copied her tweeting style and referenced her whole Chains of Hades beef. But then came the post that blew up: “mother of rose toys.”
Now, The Mother of Thorns is the actual name of her skin, but fans quickly pointed out that the wording sounded like a reference to adult toys. Considering Fortnite’s massive younger audience, that didn’t go over well.
Doja jumped into the replies to clear things up, writing, “I told them not to [post], man. That’s not even me. I said, ‘don’t post that.’” She even followed it up with another comment: “s**t cringe as f**k, now I’m embarrassed,” as spotted by Polygon.
Some fans actually thought it was Doja behind the posts, but she quickly shut that down. Since then, the post’s been deleted. Additionally, the Fortnite account has swapped its profile pic back to the usual logo, though they did keep the other posts pretending to be Doja Cat.
It’s all gotten a bit messy, and only time will tell if Epic will address the issue or apologize to Doja.
