Don’t Breathe 3 will only happen on one condition says star Stephen Lang

Don’t Breathe star Stephen Lang believes a third movie will happen, revealing that everyone involved is “crawling in the same direction” to make it a true trilogy.

Stephen Lang has been the overarching villain in the Avatar movies, while later this month, he’ll play the antagonist in future action classic Sisu 2, aka Sisu: Road to Revenge.

In between those projects, he played the bad guy in 2016 horror movie Don’t Breathe, who turned ever so slightly good in 2021 sequel Don’t Breathe 2.

In both films his blind army veteran wasn’t to be messed with, and a third instalment has been rumored for years, so we recently asked the actor about that prospect.

When Dexerto sat down with Stephen Lang to discuss all things Sisu 2, we slipped in a question about Don’t Breathe, asking if he thinks Part 3 will ever happen.

“I do,” came the response, and when we asked to elaborate, Lang said: “It’s a way off, and it’s not a certainty, but I do think that we are all kind of crawling in the same direction.”

As for what it will take to make that happen, Lang says it’s all about turning the series into a true trilogy.

“I know a lot of people would like it done within the structure of the business, so it’s a question of getting it right,” says Lang. “Really getting it just right. Because the first one was perfect. The second one, I think, is very, very, cool. Somehow, the third one needs to tie it all up. It needs to make it truly a trilogy. So I hope it’ll happen. I think it will.”

As for what might happen in the threequel, when Don’t Breathe 2 hit screens, writer-director Rodo Sayagues said that any potential Part 3 could reunite Part 1 protagonist Rocky with Lang’s Norman Nordstrom/Blind Man.

“I think stories are never wrapped,” Sayagues told ScreenRant. “If something is true about the first movie, is that there’s no closure on both ends. There was no closure for the story of Norman and there’s no closure for the story of Rocky, they both got away with a crime, both of them. Because Rocky stole a lot of money.”
