Doritos is launching a new protein-focused version of its iconic chips, adding a functional twist to one of its most recognizable snack brands.

The new Doritos Protein tortilla-style chips will roll out at select U.S. retailers in March, delivering 10 grams of protein per one-ounce serving. A single-serve bag containing 17 grams of protein is also planned for release later this year.

According to PepsiCo Foods, the product is designed to give consumers another snacking option without changing the core Doritos experience. The chips are positioned as a snack rather than a performance or meal-replacement product.

Doritos adds protein-focused chips to its snack lineup

Doritos Protein will launch in two flavors: Nacho Cheese and Sweet & Tangy BBQ. The chips are made with dairy-based protein (casein) and contain no artificial colors or flavors, while maintaining the same flavor profile and crunch associated with traditional Doritos.

“This innovation underscores PepsiCo Foods’ commitment to evolving its portfolio to meet shifting consumer preferences toward foods with functional ingredients,” said Hernán Tantardini, Chief Marketing Officer, PepsiCo Foods U.S.

“Seventy percent of consumers want their salty snacks to have protein and now we are making it more accessible and seamlessly integrated into everyday snacking occasions without compromising the distinctive Doritos experience,” he added.

PepsiCo says the launch represents its expansion into the protein snack category, with the brand aiming to combine functional ingredients with familiar snack formats.

Doritos Protein is targeted at both existing Doritos fans and consumers looking to increase protein intake while keeping familiar snack choices in their routine.

The company says the product is meant for standard snacking moments such as mid-day or on-the-go eating, rather than fitness-focused or performance-driven use. Doritos Protein will not replace standard Doritos products, but instead expands the brand’s overall lineup.
