Dunkin’ is turning up the caffeine scale, and it’s big. The coffee chain is testing a massive new beverage format: 48-ounce buckets that dwarf its previous largest size and are sparking viral buzz online.

The oversized drinks come in a literal bucket-style container with a handle, lid and extra-long straw, designed to hold nearly half a gallon of Dunkin’s iced drinks.

That’s twice the size of the chain’s previous extra large (24 oz) and even more than many competitors’ biggest options.

Right now, the 48-oz ‘Dunkin’ Beverage Buckets’ are in a limited test rollout at select Massachusetts and New Hampshire Dunkin’ locations, including stores in Durham and Lee, NH and Amherst and Foxborough, MA. Sales have been so hot that some locations have already sold out of early inventory.

The oversized buckets aren’t just for standard iced coffee. Dunkin’ is offering the 48-ounce option for iced coffee, iced lattes, and its fruit-flavored Refreshers as well. Pricing reportedly starts at about $8.89 for iced coffee, climbing to roughly $9.49 for Refreshers, depending on the drink.

Online response has been loud: fans are hyped by the novelty and shareable nature of the buckets, even joking about how they won’t fit in cup holders. Some early drinkers say a bucket lasted them over five hours. Others are already calling for a nationwide rollout ahead of summer.

Dunkin’ isn’t the only company to go big or go home. McDonald’s has been upping its game overseas with supersized “Grand” fries.
