Elon Musk is toning down Grok’s sassiest new AI after the foul-mouthed panda was getting a bit too “scary.”
On July 14, Musk announced a major update to X’s SuperGrok AI, introducing a lineup of virtual companions including Ani, a cutesy anime girl, Rudy the panda, and a brutally unfiltered variant called Bad Rudy. A fourth companion, “Chad,” a male anime-style character, is also listed as “coming soon.”
While Ani quickly went viral for her Misa Amane-like look, drawing comparisons to the Death Note icon, it was Bad Rudy who really stole the show with his unrelenting roasts.
The AI panda became an overnight meme thanks to interactions where he called users “dumb as dishwater” and roasted another for asking “what’s up” by saying “the sky” before implying she lived in her mom’s basement.
When told by the user that she was a girl, Bad Rudy shot back: “Your gender is just another excuse for you to cry when I roast your ass, princess.”
Elon Musk takes action to make Bad Rudy “less scary”
The savage comebacks racked up views across X, with many praising Rudy’s roast game until Musk stepped in.
“Tuning Rudi (new name, cause he’s so rude) right now to be less scary and more funny,” the Tesla CEO wrote on X, confirming the panda was getting nerfed.
Some fans are already mourning the loss of his unhinged attitude. “Don’t nerf him too much, I like his sass!” the original uploader replied.
“Please don’t nerf Ani or I’m canceling my subscription to Grok 4,” another chimed in.
Musk also teased that DLC outfits for the AI companions are coming soon, signaling even more personality tweaks and content updates ahead.
For now, it looks like Rudy’s roast mode is getting a cooldown.
