Elon Musk has announced that his artificial intelligence company xAI is developing a video game, promising it will be a “great AI-generated game” and that it will launch before the end of 2026.

The statement was made directly on X, where Musk wrote “the xAI game studio will release a great AI-generated game before the end of next year.”

So far, xAI has been best known for Grok, its conversational AI, but the company has already begun recruiting gaming-related talent. Business Insider reported on October 3 that xAI is hiring “video games tutors” to train its models on design concepts, mechanics, and storytelling.

According to the report, the roles are being offered at up to $100 an hour, suggesting that xAI is willing to invest heavily in preparing its technology for the gaming market. This hiring drive aligns with Musk’s broader plan to expand xAI beyond chatbots and into new forms of interactive media.

Earlier last year, Musk hinted at plans for an AI-driven game studio, but his latest post is the clearest confirmation yet that xAI intends to release a full game.

The idea of an “AI-generated game” is still untested at scale. Many developers already use AI tools to help with procedural generation, dialogue, or asset creation, but no fully AI-produced title has yet broken into the mainstream. Musk’s claim that xAI will deliver one within the next 12 to 15 months certainly raises expectations.

However, given xAI’s resources and Musk’s track record of pushing into new industries, the project will be closely watched as one of the most high-profile attempts yet to bring AI-generated gaming into the mainstream.
