Epic Games humiliated a Fortnite cheater and turned a routine ban into a public apology that raced across social media.
It appears that cheating will continue to be a persistent issue across live service shooters in 2026. Earlier in February, Arc Raiders drew attention after Embark rolled out sweeping Steam Family bans that wiped out entire linked accounts in one move.
Now it’s Fortnite’s turn. Epic loves a lawsuit, and the company kept its habit of bans and court filings alive through 2025 and into 2026.
Fortnite forces cheater to issue public apology
Epic confirmed it caught a player who used cheats and carried out DDoS attacks that disrupted Fortnite servers and targeted players during live matches.
The company said it pursued legal action, issued a permanent ban across Fortnite and all Epic services, and required the offender to post a public apology to the community.
The announcement came from FNCompetitive, Epic’s official competitive Fortnite account. The statement itself left no room for ambiguity, as the cheater admitted to “using cheats in Fortnite and conducting DDoS attacks” that disrupted games for other players.
They acknowledged the behavior broke Fortnite’s rules and violated the law, confirmed a lifetime ban from Fortnite and Epic’s wider ecosystem, and ended the message with a promise not to engage in cheating or cyber attacks again.
