LEGO and Nintendo have had a fruitful relationship for a number of years now. And since the original Mario Kart's first released on August 27, 1992, that makes today its 33rd anniversary. In honor of that fun fact, we thought now would be a great time to highlight all of the LEGO sets based on Mario Kart that are available right now. There are some very cool sets, so fasten your seatbelt and let's get this race going.
Every LEGO Mario Kart Set
This side-scrolling catalog has all the LEGO Mario Kart sets available at the time of this writing. But if you want to dive deeper into them, keep on reading.
LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart - Mario & Standard Kart
LEGO Mario Kart - Bowser's Castle
The most ambitious (and most expensive) of the play-oriented Mario Kart sets for kids is Bowser’s Castle. It comes with Yoshi and Bowser on their own karts, as well as a banana peel and red shell power-up. But the main selling point here is King Koopa's castle, which comes complete with a blocky Thwomp and several fire-based traps. You can even burst through the walls of the castle thanks to a build-in hinge mechanism that lets them fold down without destroying your build.
LEGO Mario Kart - Baby Peach & Grand Prix
If you’re looking for a good entry point for building your LEGO Mario Kart play set, this is a solid pick. It gets you a starting/finish line, which is kind of crucial, as well as some guard rails, cones, question blocks, and power-ups. Plus, you get three characters on karts — Baby Peach, Toad, and Lemmy — as well as the cloud-riding Lakitu with his start signal lights.
Mario Kart - Interactive LEGO Mario & Standard Kart
LEGO Mario Kart - Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit
This set comes with Toadette and a Koopa Troopa with their karts, plus a Piranha Plant Power-Up that you can attach to their cars. Then, during racing play, the carnivorous plant can chomp on other karts, causing them to skid out like they do in the games. Devious.
LEGO Mario Kart - Wario & King Boo
This set seems kind of pricy because all you get are two characters on karts. But they’re great characters. You get King Boo on a bear-shaped kart, and Wario in his eye-catching pink kart, plus his glider.
LEGO Mario Kart - Toad's Garage
I love this one. It’s a cute little automotive garage run by two little Toads decked out in pit crew duds. Use this to fix up any karts that get damaged during play.
LEGO Mario Kart - Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo
LEGO Mario Kart - Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi
Baby Luigi and Baby Mario are some of the cutest Mario Kart characters ever to race in the series. This set puts them in a Biddybuggy and a Tri-Speeder and has them try to burst balloons.
LEGO Mario Kart - Shy Guy & P-Wing
LEGO Mario Kart - Standard Kart
If you already have an interactive Mario figure, you can simply grab this kart kit. It has the standard kart, plus a Toad pit crew member and a Mario glider. It also comes with a target.
