Every upcoming DCU movie, TV show & Elseworlds project in development

Welcome to the era of Gods and Monsters, the first chapter of James Gunn’s DCU – and with Superman hitting cinemas, this is a breakdown of every upcoming DC movie and TV show, including Elseworlds projects.

The DCEU is dead, (hopefully) long live the DCU. Gunn and Peter Safran are about to launch one of the biggest reboots in Hollywood history, with Superman teeing up a whole new world of comic book adaptations.

Cinematic universes are no longer a novel concept, but if there’s one thing the MCU has proven over the past few years, it’s that people can get confused – or, perhaps even worse, they lose track of what’s what, who’s who, and why everything matters.

Thankfully, Gunn has been (mostly) open about the future of the DC Universe. To make this easier, we’ll split it into DCU and “Elseworlds” projects, aka films and TV shows outwith the main continuity.

DCU movies

Supergirl

  • Release date: June 26, 2026
  • Director: Craig Gillespie
  • Cast: Milly Alcock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, Jason Momoa

Gunn and Safran are being patient with the DCU. It won’t release another movie until next summer, when the Woman of Tomorrow makes her big-screen debut (pending a possible cameo in Superman).

Supergirl, based on Tom King’s comic, will follow Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El as she travels across the galaxy with Krypto while celebrating her 21st birthday, during which she meets the young Ruthye (Eve Ridley) and goes on a ‘murderous quest for revenge.’

It’s directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya and Cruella), and it’ll feature Jason Momoa’s debut as Lobo.

Clayface

  • Release date: September 11, 2026
  • Director: James Watkins
  • Cast: Tom Rhys Harries

Clayface will be the DCU’s first R-rated movie. It’s set to be a “tragic” body-horror film (directed by James Watkins, who made the Speak No Evil remake and Eden Lake), with Tom Rhys Harries playing the titular inevitable supervillain.

The script was also written by Mike Flanagan, so expect greatness. However, even though Matt Reeves is on board as a producer, it’s not connected to The Batman.

“Clayface is totally DCU. The only thing that’s in Matt’s world, his Crime Saga that he’s telling, is the Batman Trilogy, the Penguin series, that’s in that lane,” Safran clarified at a DC presentation.

“So still under DC Studios, still under us. We have an incredible relationship with Matt, but those are the only things. It was important that Clayface be part of the DCU. It’s an origin story for a classic Batman villain that we want to have in our world.”

The Authority

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: María Gabriela de Faría

The Authority was among the first projects announced as part of the DCU slate, set to follow the eponymous super-powered group; think of them a bit like the Thunderbolts, but not quite as villainous as the Suicide Squad.

While María Gabriela de Faría is expected to reprise her role from Superman as the Engineer, progress has been slow on the project.

“Yeah, it could happen. It’s not something that’s going especially quickly right now, but it could happen for sure,” Gunn told Blavity TV.

The Brave and the Bold

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: Andy Muschietti
  • Cast: TBC

This is a big one, and it’s pretty contentious. The Brave and the Bold (if it ever gets made) will introduce the DCU’s version of Batman – which won’t be Robert Pattinson, according to Gunn.

In the first DCU presentation, Gunn said the film will introduce the Bat family, including Damian Wayne’s Robin, and it’s “a very strange sort of father-son story about the two of them.”

Andy Muschietti is down to direct, but after The Flash, things have been… weird. In late 2024, he revealed it’d been delayed. Gunn keeps saying a screenwriter is working on it, but we don’t know who it is, and THR has cast doubt over whether or not the project even exists.

Here’s the thing: Gunn may say it’s “not the plan” for Pattinson to be the DCU Batman, but David Zaslav doesn’t want multiple Batmen. What if… The Brave and the Bold is secretly The Batman Part 2?

Swamp Thing

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: James Mangold
  • Cast: TBC

Swamp Thing will be directed by James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari, Logan), and it’ll be a gothic horror film that explores the “dark origins” of the titular character.

According to Gunn, it’ll be inspired by Alan Moore’s The Saga of the Swamp Thing run, and it’s a passion project for Mangold. However, work on the script is still ongoing, so don’t expect to see it anytime soon.

Teen Titans (title TBC)

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

There’s very little we know about this movie other than the fact it’ll be based around the Teen Titans and Ana Nogueira (who wrote the Supergirl script) is penning the screenplay.

If Nightwing is included, he could appear in The Brave and the Bold (again, if that ever happens). “It was something that Ana was really impassioned about, and she turned over an amazing script for us. She’s fiddling with that now, but it’s definitely not a finished script,” Gunn said earlier this year.

Deathstroke & Bane (title TBC)

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Again, don’t expect many details here. In September 2024, a film focusing on Bane and Deathstroke was revealed to be in development, with Matthew Orton (Moon Knight) writing the script.

Gunn and Safran have said it’s “something kind of like” a story about Deathstroke and Bane. In other words, we don’t really know anything at all.

Wonder Woman (title TBC)

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Gunn confirmed to EW: “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now.”

Beyond that, we don’t know anything; who it will star, who will direct it, what it will be about, when it will be set – anything.

Adria Arjona is the fans’ top pick to play her (she’s also worked with Gunn before), and she’s of paramount importance to Warner Bros. This will be a big film, but it’s far in the future right now.

Sgt. Rock

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: Luca Guadagnino
  • Cast: TBC

Said to be a World War II story, the film is expected to follow Sgt. Rock (an amazing, brutal soldier, basically) as he teams up with a female French resistance fighter to find the Spear of Destiny before the Nazis.

Luca Guadagnino (yes, the director of the Suspiria remake, Bones and All, and Call Me By Your Name) will direct a script penned by Justin Kuritzkes (Challengers, Queer).

Daniel Craig was initially attached to star, but he passed on the project due to scheduling conflicts. Colin Farrell and Jeremy Allen White have also been reported to be in talks.

However, development was halted earlier this year. In Gunn’s words, it “wasn’t exactly where I wanted it to be creatively” and he felt it needed to “change a little bit” first.

Superman sequel (title TBC)

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: David Corenswet

Gunn has confirmed he’s developing a follow-up to Superman, but it won’t “necessarily” be as simple as Superman 2.

“What I’m working on is in some way… I mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-up Superman sequel? I would not say necessarily,” he told EW

So, what could it be? The leading prediction is a World’s Finest movie, which could fold Pattinson’s Batman into the DCU. But that’s pure speculation, so we’ll just need to wait to find out more (probably for at least another year).

DCU TV shows

Peacemaker Season 2

  • Release date: August 21, 2025
  • Cast: John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn

It’s been over three years since John Cena’s gun-toting, helmet-sporting anti-hero made the leap to the small screen in Max’s Peacemaker, saving the world from the Butterflies (and calling the Justice League “d*ckheads for their tardiness”).

The hierarchy of power at DC has literally changed, and Peacemaker Season 2 is being positioned as a big release for the franchise, especially because Merced’s Hawkgirl, Fillion’s Guy Gardner, and Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord will appear.

Krypto

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Earlier this year, a fan wrote to Gunn, “If we got an animated spinoff series of Krypto alone, I’d be happy,” to which Gunn replied, “You’re in luck.”

It’s likely he was referencing Krypto shorts, planned to be released annually after Superman. “We’ve got these cool little Krypto shorts that are so fun, man,” he said in February.

“I’ve been watching all of them. He’s a terrible, terrible dog. It’s for families and it’s just really fun and goofy. It’s pretty cool.”

Safran added: “It’s definitely the Krypto you fall in love with in Superman. He’s a terrible dog.”

Lanterns

  • Release date: 2026 (TBC)
  • Cast: Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Nathan Fillion

After his debut in Superman, Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern will return… but Lanters isn’t about him. Instead, it’ll follow Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they investigate a murder in Nebraska, with the series said to be inspired by No Country for Old Men and True Detective.

That’s a big swing for characters that wear magical rings. Tom King and Damon Lindelof are also on board as executive producers, and Chris Mundy is serving as showrunner. In Safran’s words, it’ll be a “huge HBO-quality event.”

Blue Beetle animated series

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Blue Beetle was released as the DCEU let out its dying breaths, which is a shame, because it’s a good movie. Gunn hasn’t forgotten that, so Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his role in an animated series. It may release in 2026, but that hasn’t been confirmed, so stay tuned for more information.

Creature Commandos Season 2

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, David Harbour, Frank Grillo

Before Superman, Creature Commandos technically launched the DCU.

The animated series followed Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo), the Bride (Indira Varma, also the estranged wife of David Harbour’s Eric Frankenstein), Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), G.I. Robot (Sean Gunn), Weasel (also Sean Gunn), Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao) as they travel to Pokolistan to protect a princess.

Season 2 was confirmed in December 2024. “You wanted monsters? Well, you’re getting even more. We’re coming back for Season 2! But don’t worry, we’ve still got plenty left this season for you,” he wrote on Threads.

Mister Miracle

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Tom King is one of Gunn’s closest confidants, so it’s no surprise that one of his most beloved comics is getting a proper animated adaptation: Mister Miracle.

King will serve as showrunner, and it’ll be based on his award-winning 12-issue series.

“No prison can hold him. No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself?” DC’s logline reads.

“Something has gone horribly wrong with the perfect life that Scott and his warrior wife Big Barda have built for themselves on Earth. With war raging between their home worlds of Apocalypse and New Genesis, Scott’s cruel adoptive father Darkseid seems to have finally captured the Anti-Life Equation – the ultimate weapon that will give Darkseid total dominance over the universe.

“As the mountains of bodies on both sides grow ever higher, only Mister Miracle can stop the slaughter and restore peace. But the terrible power of the Anti-Life Equation may already be at work in his own mind, warping his reality, exposing his long-buried pain, and shattering the fragile happiness he’s found with the woman he loves.”

“And so begins the odyssey of Scott Free, Mister Miracle: a harrowing, hilarious, heart-wrenching journey across the pitfalls of the ordinary and extraordinary as the son of God raised by the devil tries to save his family, his world, and maybe even himself.”

Paradise Lost

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Paradise Lost is set to be a live-action series centered around the Amazons of Themyscira, taking place before Wonder Woman’s birth and presumably setting up her introduction in the DCU.

In his first video about the DCU’s slate, Gunn teased that it’d be inspired by Game of Thrones.

“Paradise Lost is moving along. It’s slow-moving, but it’s moving. And, yeah, I really love that project a lot,” he told EW. It’s unclear who’s writing it, who will star in it, or when it will be released.

Waller

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: Viola Davis

Originally expected to be released before Peacemaker Season 2, the spinoff following Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller is now being retooled, with Gunn saying in February that it’s been a “bumpy road” for the TV show.

She’s already appeared in the DCU, assigning Rick Flag to lead the Creature Commandos. Beyond that, it’s unclear when or where she’ll show up again.

Booster Gold

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Booster Gold, billed as an “outright comedy” series following Mike Carter, “a loser from the future who uses basic future technology to come back to today and pretend to be a superhero.”

“In the 25th century, Mike is a disgraced former football star who uses a time machine on display in the Metropolis Space Museum,” Variety reported.

However, a showrunner fell through in 2024, and there have yet to be any further announcements regarding who’s writing the series or who will play the titular hero. Kumail Nanjiani and Chris Pratt have been common fancasts, but Gunn hasn’t confirmed anything.

“We’re not quite there yet, in terms of Booster Gold,” he told the Happy Sad Confused podcast

“The scripts aren’t quite where I want them to be. From the beginning, I’ve made it clear that what we’re going to do at DC is that, no matter what, we’re going to wait until the screenplays are ready until we shoot them. We’re not going to shoot until I’m happy with the script.

Elseworlds movies

The Batman Part 2

  • Release date: October 1, 2027
  • Director: Matt Reeves
  • Cast: Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright

This is the big one; arguably bigger than any other DC movie in development.

The Batman Part 2 was set to be released in October 2025, and then it was delayed to 2026, and then it was postponed again to 2027.

Why? Well, Matt Reeves is known for taking his time when he’s getting a script together, plus it’s also been reported he’s had to deal with personal issues behind the scenes. In June 2025, he turned in a complete draft of the script, so things are finally starting to move.

According to another report, it’s aiming to start production in January 2026 after Pattinson finishes work on Dune 3.

The main question is this: will it remain an Elseworlds project, or will The Batman 2 be part of the DCU?

“It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense,” Reeves told MTV News.

“What’s been great is there is a story that I wanted to tell we’re calling the Epic Crime Saga, which is the thrust of what we want to do. And it’s been important to me to be able to play that out.

“What the future brings, I can’t really tell you. I have no idea right now, except that my head is down now about getting The Batman: Part II shooting and to make it something really special, which is, of course, the most important thing.”

Gunn also keeps insisting that he’s “very involved” in The Brave and the Bold – what if it’s all a bluff and Pattinson is going to become the DCU’s Batman?

Constantine 2

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: Francis Lawrence
  • Cast: Keanu Reeves

Reeves and Lawrence have always been open about their interest in returning to Constantine. Over the past few years, there have been some serious developments about the sequel.

In 2022, it was confirmed that Warner Bros was working on a follow-up, with Avika Goldsman also penning the screenplay and J.J. Abrams producing. Reeves said Gunn told him it’d still get made under the new leadership – it’d just be categorized as an Elseworlds project.

In 2025, Reeves revealed that he and Lawrence pitched their idea to DC and they said, “OK… so we’re going to try and write the script” (via Deadline).

Whatever happens in the sequel, it’ll be set in the same world as the 2005 film. “We’re not going off that. John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more,” he teased.

Dynamic Duo

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: Arthur Mintz
  • Cast: TBC

Dynamic Duo will be an animated feature that explores the friendship between Dick Grayson and Jason Todd – both of whom serve as Robins in the DC comics. It’s an Elseworlds project, so it isn’t canon to the DCU nor the world of The Batman.

However, it is being produced by Gunn and Reeves.

“I have wanted to make a film with Arthur and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be Dynamic Duo, an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream,” Reeves said in a statement.

It won’t be like other animated films from DC – it’s set to feature puppetry.

Static Shock

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

An animated Static Shock movie was reported to be in development in 2022, but don’t expect to see it anytime soon. According to Gunn, he’s “not doing anything with Static Shock in the DCU right now as there is currently complexities with the rights.”

That doesn’t mean it’ll never happen; he could appear in another film or TV show. Just don’t get your hopes up.

Elseworlds TV shows

The Penguin Season 2

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: Colin Farrell

Here’s the thing: The Penguin Season 2 hasn’t been green-lit by Gunn or anyone at DC, nor does Farrell and co seem especially keen on making it. However, there have been too many teases to rule it out.

We know Farrell is reprising his role in The Batman Part 2. Reeves also told THR that “everything is on the table” – including another season.

“But at the end of the day, we feel like there are more stories to tell in this world… what can we do that feels fresh?” he said.

“We’re still talking about the bigger picture and the future and what a second season of The Penguin might look like… we don’t know yet. We’re just starting to figure that out.”

Farrell also expressed concern that the brutal ending of the first season (no spoilers, don’t worry) could make it “more difficult” to continue the story. “It’s not impossible, but it’s a tougher hill to climb,” he said.

The Batman Part 2 is the priority, but don’t be surprised if Oz Cobb’s saga continues on HBO.

My Adventures with Green Lantern

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

My Adventures with Green Lantern is one of three “younger-skewing” DC animated series in the works.

It will follow Jessica Cruz, a high school student “who has her life upended when a Green Lantern Power Ring falls from the sky” and chooses Cruz “to be its champion,” as per Variety

Jake Wyatt and Stephanie Gonzaga are down as co-executive producers, but that’s all we know.

DC Super Powers

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Set in the Alliance School for Heroes, DC Super Powers is another animated series.

It’ll follow Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern, and Terra, who “level up their powers under the supervision of Principal Martian Manhunter, in the hopes of one day graduating and becoming the next generation of Earth’s defenders.”

Starfire

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Starfire is the last of the animated series in development, set to explore the origin story of the titular character and her adventures after she escapes her home planet of Tamaran to journey across space.

She’ll also meet “space biker Crush, plant-loving Fern, and the magical Princess Amethyst of Gemworld” and together, they will “uncover the deepest reaches of the DC universe, save Space Dolphins, surf technicolor nebulas, and boldly soar into the unknown.”
