The Remedyverse continues in yet another direction no one saw coming. Seven years removed from Jesse Faden’s dazzling dance through the Oldest House, her brother, Dylan, is set to take over in the sequel, Control Resonant.

Unveiled during the 2025 Game Awards, Control Resonant is the next chapter in Remedy’s ongoing, interconnected, utterly bizarre yet infinitely mesmerizing narrative. As you may expect, though, it’s not exactly what you’d expect. Do you follow?

See, the original Control, as perplexing as it was, still shared the bones of other Remedy titles. It was a third-person shooter, of sorts. This time around, the Finnish devs are going in a completely new direction with a third-person melee focus instead.

Not to mention, there’s a different protagonist, a different setting, and a whole slew of different story beats to wrap our minds around. Without further ado, here’s everything we know about Control Resonant thus far.

We know for certain Control Resonant is targeting a 2026 release. Beyond that, however, it’s unclear when exactly we might be seeing the game.

Reports early in the year suggested a Q2 2026 release window, though devs quickly shot that down as mere “speculation.”

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. Rest assured, we’ll keep you up to speed with all the latest details right here as they emerge.

What platforms will it be on?

Control Resonant has been confirmed for PC, mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S.

There’s no word on a Nintendo Switch 2 port, though historically, Remedy games have jumped over at a later date. Both Alan Wake Remastered and Control Ultimate Edition eventually found their way over to the handheld, so it’s possible Resonant follows suit later down the line, too.

What is the story about? Sequel details

As we mentioned, you’re not playing as Jesse Faden this time around. Rather, players will be stepping into the shoes of her brother, Dylan Faden.

Seven years after the events of the first game, The Hiss, otherworldly beings hellbent on chaos, have broken out. In the first game, the interdimensional entities were contained in the Oldest House. Now, we find they’ve smashed the barriers and begun to flood the streets of downtown Manhattan.

Also, for reasons unknown, Director Jesse is calling on her brother to head down into the streets of New York and clear them out.

Remedy has described the sequel as having a significantly different approach to its storytelling, even suggesting players won’t need to have experienced the first game to understand the story of Resonant.

We’d be a little dubious of those comments, though. In typical Remedy fashion, Resonant is all but guaranteed to tie into the overarching narrative woven across Alan Wake & Alan Wake 2, the Max Payne games, and even Quantum Break. If you want to appreciate it all, you’d best do your homework.

How gameplay differs from the first Control

Being thrown out into the streets of New York, the sequel, well, controls a little differently from the original. Apologies for the pun.

As far as we can see, there’s no gunplay this go around. Dylan instead opts for a more up close and personal approach, leaping into fights with a melee weapon known as the Aberrant.

Set amid the sprawling cityscape, Resonant is described as an “open-ended” game, but not a pure open world. Similar to the first, that means we can safely expect vast open areas, and plenty of Metroidvania-esque backtracking again, but don’t expect a complete open world littered with quest markers.

There will be a range of side objectives to complete, and it’s safe to assume these will help Dylan upgrade his arsenal, be it through improved melee attacks or new traversal options. We know to expect a broad range of build possibilities, allowing us to lean into our preferred playstyles.

Trailers

All we have to go off thus far is the Announcement Trailer from the 2025 Game Awards. Here, we got our first look at the game in action, as well as the big reveal of Dylan as the protagonist.

That’s the comprehensive rundown on everything we know about Control Resonant for the time being. Be sure to check back in for new information throughout the year as we get closer to its eventual release.
