You thought the Phantom Thieves were done? Persona 5: The Phantom X says otherwise.

This isn’t just a mobile side dish; it’s a full-course gacha meal. Set in an alternate universe with a new crew, new threats, and the same stylish chaos, this game blends gacha mechanics with classic turn-based action.

It looks like it’s got the battles, the drama, and absurdly cool outfits. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is officially set to release on June 26, 2025.

This announcement was made during a pre-recorded video stream by ATLUS Japan on May 15, 2025, which also confirmed an English version is in development.

The game has been in open beta in China since April 2024, with regular updates refining its systems ahead of global release.

Platforms

The game is launching on both PC and mobile platforms.

The mobile version is designed for on-the-go convenience, perfect for daily logins and grinding. Meanwhile, PC players can enjoy the visuals and combat on a larger screen with a more traditional RPG feel. The Steam page is already available.

Trailers

Several trailers have been released, showcasing the game’s combat, characters, and story.

The Announcement Trailer was first revealed on January 3, 2024. This one showed off some of the characters, exploration, and combat from the game, which looks very similar to the original Persona 5.

On May 15, a Story Trailer was revealed. This one focuses a bit more on cutscenes and what our thieves will be up to in this entry.

Gameplay

Phantom X sticks to turn-based Persona-style combat with gacha elements for character collection. If we look at other games in the genre, it’s likely that Phantom X will feature some form of banners with Persona characters that you can collect, as long as you’re willing to spend premium currency.

Players explore Palace-like dungeons manually, but can enable auto-play during battles. A recent overhaul introduced a generous pity system, which lets players’ progress carry between banners.

Though dungeons can’t be replayed, the story progression is semi-linear. Online features are minimal, limited to text chat and a central hub area, but no multiplayer battles (yet).

Story

Set in a parallel Persona 5 universe, the game explores a world where desires have been stolen, not hearts.

The central theme shifts to “retaking desires”, and players control a brand-new team of Phantom Thieves. It shares core stylistic elements with Persona 5 and you can expect several characters to make a comeback, both playable like Queen and Joker, and non-playable, like Igor.

Characters

Your main party features a bold cast comprised of new and returning characters:

  • Leader (Red armor, eye patch, bow): Calm, precise, and clearly the one keeping the team in check.
  • Cattle (Robot owl): The quirky and adorable new mascot, which is equal parts cute and unsettling.
  • Closer (Yellow hoodie): Agile melee fighter with ninja-like moves and attitude.
  • Puppet (Techie girl with blue hair): High-tech hoverboard, cool goggles, and likely the team’s strategist/hacker.
  • Joker: Our masked swordfighter rocks the same cool factor, leading from the front with finesse.
  • Queen: As shown in the story trailer, Persona 5’s cover girl is making a comeback in Phantom X.

Each member brings a distinct visual style and combat role, just how a Phantom Thief should operate.
