Physint is set to mark Hideo Kojima’s return to the action-espionage genre, and while it’s early days yet, details are starting to trickle out. From the cast to the development process, here’s the full rundown on what we know.
Video game auteur Kojima is among the busiest men in the industry today. Hot on the heels of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, he’s juggling multiple large-scale projects spanning various genres and mediums.
From the Death Stranding live-action film to the animated feature film, an anthological horror experience with Microsoft called OD, and a next-gen game with PlayStation to boot, there’s a great deal on his plate.
Although it may be the furthest out from release of all those listed above, Physint is already starting to take shape with a number of crew members signed on and early artwork making the rounds. So to get well ahead of the curve, let’s take a deep dive into everything there is to know about the upcoming game.
When will Physint come out?
Currently, there’s no clear indication of when Physint may hit store shelves.
The project was first unveiled on January 31, 2024, during a State of Play broadcast. In the year that followed, details were relatively scarce as Kojima focused his efforts on the Death Stranding sequel.
In a May 2025 interview, however, Kojima, allegedly the only member of Kojima Productions working on Physint, suggested the game could require a full five to six years of work before it’s ready.
That messaging was echoed in an August 2025 update, wherein Kojima reaffirmed the title is still in the conceptual phase and he’s the only person working on it.
Having been described as a next-generation title, one that will leverage the next PlayStation system (presumably the PS6), it’s therefore safe not to expect this one anytime soon.
If Kojima’s projections hold true, we might not be playing Physint until 2030 at the earliest.
What exactly is Physint? Game & Movie hybrid details
This is where things get a little murky. Physint hasn’t been described as a traditional video game, but rather, a blend of mediums.
Upon its announcement back in 2024, it was revealed in partnership with Columbia Pictures with one clear goal in mind: To blur the lines between cinema and video games.
There’s obviously no way to tell precisely what this means, but it’s evident that Physint will be more than just a playable experience. Beyond the action-espionage gameplay, no doubt with stealth and gunplay at the center of it, it appears there’ll be room for high-production value live-action components too.
Perhaps instead of traditional video game cutscenes, we see live-action segments. Think the likes of Alan Wake 2 and Control, but even more fleshed out with a considerably bigger budget. Given the collaboration with Columbia Pictures, Kojima would likely have access to their production studios and crew members to effectively bake a Hollywood blockbuster into his game.
Kojima has described it as the “culmination of [his] work,” and we all know how much the man adores cinema. Physint seems to be his opportunity to bridge the gap between playable, interactive experiences and the artistry of film.
What platforms will Physint be on?
Physint is officially a next-gen title, meaning we can expect to see it launch on the next PlayStation system, presumably the PS6.
The game is being developed in partnership with Sony, meaning it’ll undoubtedly be a PlayStation console exclusive at launch.
Down the line, similar to Death Stranding, we could see a PC port a year or so after release. However, it’s unlikely to reach Xbox platforms whatsoever.
Who’s in Physint? Cast details & theories
While it’s clearly still a few years away, that hasn’t stopped Kojima from putting pen to paper with a number of high-profile actors to lock them in for Physint.
Naturally, his obsession with George Miller’s work continues, as Furiosa actress Charlee Fraser was the first cast member announced.
Next came Ma Dong-seok, otherwise known as Don Lee. The legendary South Korean actor has appeared in everything from Train to Busan to The Eternals. After an appearance in Death Stranding 2, operating a facility on the Australian map, he’s set to take on a more intricate role in Physint.
Lastly, Japanese actress Minami Hamabe was announced for the project, following on from a breakout performance in Godzilla Minus One.
At the time of writing, it’s unclear the extent of their involvement or just how big their roles will be. One thing we do know, however, is that none of them is the protagonist.
As the game’s official key art revealed, there’s another, yet-to-be-revealed cast member taking the role of Physint’s leading man. Of course, plenty of theories have been swirling since its reveal.
Robert Pattinson of Twilight and The Batman fame has been front of mind for many fans, given Kojima’s fandom and recent pictures of the pair together. Meanwhile, Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne has also been put forward, given his physical similarity to the obscured character on the poster.
We’ll just have to wait and see when Kojima’s ready to announce the next details.
