Super Meat Boy 3D has been announced by Team Meat, a new take on the developer’s iconic platformer franchise.
When it comes to precision platformer games, Super Meat Boy is one of the biggest indie franchises to take part in the genre thanks to Team Meat’s Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes.
It quickly became one of the biggest Xbox Live Arcade titles back when it was released in 2010, but didn’t receive a sequel until 2020, years after McMillen left Team Meat to focus on his next indie hit, The Binding of Isaac.
The developers are already back with another game in the series, Super Meat Boy 3D, which was revealed during the June 5, 2025, Xbox Showcase event. Here’s everything we know about the new title.
Super Meat Boy 3D release window
Super Meat Boy 3D is scheduled for release in early 2026.
Beyond that, no specifics are known, although we do know what platforms the game will be available on.
Platforms
Super Meat Boy 3D will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
It will be an Xbox Play Anywhere game as well, meaning if you buy it on one platform, it will work on all the others without having to buy the game again. This is perfect for anyone looking to switch between console and PC, whether it’s an actual computer or the new ROG Xbox Ally handheld.
Trailers
Just one trailer has been released as of June 9, 2025, and it gives players the first look at the game’s new 3D styling.
Game details
We don’t know much about the story in Super Meat Boy 3D, other than it follows the same idea from the first two games: Dr Fetus kidnapped Bandage Girl, and Meat Boy must go through a series of complicated levels to save her.
An interview with the developers, however, reveals that it’s not being made by Team Meat directly. It’s coming from another indie team, Sluggerfly, instead, and is simply being supported by Tommy Refenes.
Each level features the same saw blades and random obstacles that Super Meat Boy is already known for, but in a new, more complex 3D design. Instead of just moving in the regular directions, you now have to interact with areas that are at a 45-degree angle from where you’re standing, meaning some new mechanics are being used to make your way across each level.
That about covers everything we know about Super Meat Boy 3D so far. Check back in the future for more details about the new game as it gets closer to release.
