Everything we know about World of Warcraft: Midnight after Gamescom reveal

World of Warcraft‘s next expansion is on its way, after tons of new content was announced during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live.

As one of the biggest MMOs out there with an insane player count, World of Warcraft (WoW) is always keeping itself fresh by releasing expansions and offering tons of new content for players to enjoy and tackle.

Well, that hasn’t slowed down, and now players have Midnight to look forward to. The second installment in the epic, three-expansion story, the Worldsoul Saga, is already looking to be a thrill thanks to the new details revealed at Gamescom. So, here’s all we know about the expansion.

Unfortunately, no, World of Warcraft: Midnight doesn’t yet have a release date. But we do know, thanks to Gamescom, it’ll be released in 2026.

Setting & Story

As previously mentioned, Midnight is the second installment in the Worldsoul Saga, so it’ll take place after The War Within.

On top of that, thanks to various hints from the developers, we know we’ll be returning to the Old World, specifically Quel’Thalas, which many will know as the home of the Blood Elves. In this location, we’ll uncover that the Void has invaded Azeroth on a mission to extinguish the Sunwell and plunge the world into darkness.

It’s your job as a player to unify the scattered Azeroth, stand with the forces of light, and banish the Shadow forever.

Whether that goes to plan or not is yet to be seen, but given there’s another expansion coming, the Last Titan, something’s bound to go wrong.

Features

Currently, only one new feature has been announced for World of Warcraft: Midnight, Player Housing.

This will allow players to purchase a house in any neighborhood to design and decorate to their heart’s content. Each neighborhood is made up of other players’ houses and is dictated by the type of neighborhood, so you could find yourself in a neighborhood with guildmates, friends, or just others on the servers.

What’s more, the neighborhood will offer shared activities to take part in. We don’t know too much about those yet, but there’s a full roadmap to look forward to, so plenty more is in store.
