A former Battlefield 6 developer – responsible for early work on the game’s campaign – has called out EA after noticing he and many others from his team were excluded from the game’s credits.

While it ultimately ended up in a decent state, even if it was on the shorter side, Battlefield 6’s campaign had a turbulent development, to say the least.

When EA announced its plans for the future of the series, Ridgeline Games was formed to lead campaign content. The new studio was formed by Marcus Lehto, a 15-year Bungie veteran who helped lead the Halo franchise through its peak.

Lehto parted ways with the team in February 2024, and the following month, EA shuttered the entire studio as it pulled resources from other areas to finish off the campaign. Now that Battlefield 6 is out in the world, however, various members of the Ridgeline team have gone uncredited, including Lehto, who spoke out on the issue.

Battlefield 6 campaign developers excluded from credits

Lehto expressed his ‘disappointment’ in an October 20 LinkedIn post first spotted by VGC, revealing a number of his former colleagues “were not properly credited” in Battlefield 6.

Although some individuals were mentioned, they were listed under the Special Thanks section, as opposed to being properly credited for their specific work. Meanwhile, many others, including Lehto, were excluded altogether.

“These talented developers worked tirelessly for 1 to 2.5 years, building the foundation of the game,” Lehto clarified. In particular, Ridgeline was responsible for mapping out a “high-level story,” nailing down the characters involved, along with the “mission flow.”

Particularly, Lehto claimed responsibility for “more open sandbox style” gameplay. We saw a slice of this in Mission 8 of Battlefield 6’s campaign, which we praised as the best part of the experience. Allegedly, a chunk of similar content was “scrapped after Ridgeline closed.”

Lehto listed 36 employees all up, with only eight of them actually being mentioned in the game’s credits. EA is yet to address the matter.

“Game development is a team effort, and every contributor deserves fair acknowledgment.”
