Former Call of Duty multiplayer director Greg Reisdorf thinks that Warzone and games like it could struggle once GTA 6 arrives with its new online mode.

It’s safe to say that Grand Theft Auto 6 is the most anticipated game currently in development. Despite being delayed until November 2026, it’s expected to break sales records when it finally releases, with some estimations predicting it will double GTA 5’s already eye-watering numbers.

There’s so much hype that major publishers are reportedly considering moving their own games to avoid being caught in GTA 6’s path.

While the single-player will no doubt be a massive hit, the online component expected to come with it will likely have even more longevity, if the current GTA Online is anything to go by.

With this in mind, Greg Reisdorf, who was Creative Director at Sledgehammer Games until 2025 and led the development of Advanced Warfare’s multiplayer, thinks that other online titles are going to feel the pinch.

In an interview with Esportsbets, Reisdorf was asked about GTA Online and its success, and he praised Rockstar’s strategy of working with the community when deciding on content, which he thinks also contributed to its success.

“It’s really cool to see that. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to the free-to-play games when GTA comes out and a new version of GTA Online launches,” he added.

While he expects online games with younger audiences to be safe, it’s particularly the more adult-themed F2P titles that he thinks will suffer.

“Fortnite and Roblox have a different audience but the Warzones of the world, the free-to-play mature titles, are going to have real trouble,” Riesdorf continued.
