A former Grand Theft Auto developer has admitted that Rockstar Games will need “magic” to bring a feature to GTA 6 that a lot of fans are desperate for.

The build-up to Grand Theft Auto 6 has been unlike pretty much any other game. GTA fans have been on edge for the release for years now, searching high and low for any clues from Rockstar Games.

However, their wait is going on a bit longer after the GTA developers announced that it would be delayed until May 26, 2026. Rockstar stated that they need a little more time to deliver on the level that fans are expecting.

One big thing that many fans are hoping for is for the game to run at 60 FPS instead of the typical 30 FPS that the last few generations of consoles have stuck by.

Ex-GTA dev isn’t sure about GTA 6 and 60 FPS

Despite the increased power of new consoles, former Rockstar Games dev Obbe Vermeij believes the GTA 6 devs will need “magic” to shift things from 30 FPS to 60 FPS as fans want.

“I would guess it would probably be 30,” Vermeij told YouTuber KiwiTalkz at the start of July. “It’s like a curse, we can’t get rid of it. Everybody says ‘oh, make it 60 then’ and you always get to this point where its a trade-off between, if you have like 10 characters on-screen in the street and it doesn’t look full enough, then you have to have 50 and the price you pay for it is that your frame rate drops a bit.

“It will probably sensible choice to pick 30, but maybe they will have some magic and they can make it 60.”

The former Rockstar dev noted that casual players “don’t really mind” the lower frame rate, and competitive players “wouldn’t be playing GTA anyway.”
