A venue-exclusive Neon Genesis Evangelion short starring Asuka has leaked online after fans were told it would never stream.

The roughly 15-minute film was screened at Neon Genesis Evangelion’s 30th anniversary event in Yokohama, Japan.

Unlike the previous anime and film releases, the organizers previously confirmed the short would only be viewable to those lucky enough to attend the event.

However, the exclusivity didn’t last long as full uploads of the film have now begun circulating online.

Asuka short spreads online despite in-person only plans

As of February 22, 2026, fans began uploading recordings of the full short online, effectively bypassing the event-only restriction a day before the in-person screenings wrapped up.

One fan even mentions how they stayed up late into the night, just so that they could add English subtitles to the camrip of the special video.

However, the Evangelion’s official X account has issued a direct warning to those recording and sharing footage from the stage area performances, stating:

“We have confirmed unauthorized recording at ‘EVANGELION:30+;’ STAGE AREA performances and the unauthorized reposting/sharing of such content online. These acts are strictly prohibited and may result in legal action. As the organizer, we will review posts and take strict measures as necessary. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

This new leak comes amid major news for the franchise, as a brand-new Evangelion anime was officially announced.

The upcoming project will feature series composition and script by Yoko Taro, best known for Nier: Automata, with direction by Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toru Yatabe. Music will be handled by Keiichi Okabe, with production credited to Studio Khara.
