A new Fallout 4 mod has combined one of the internet’s oldest thought experiments with Bethesda’s most recognizable face, turning Todd Howard into an inescapable threat that slowly hunts the player across the Commonwealth.
The mod was created by Blurbs, a YouTuber who challenged himself to mod Fallout 4 using only ideas suggested by his audience. He asked viewers for their worst Fallout mod ideas, then forced himself to implement as many as possible before attempting story missions with all of them enabled.
One of the standout creations was the Todd Howard Immortal Snail mod. Building on an existing cardboard Todd Howard cutout originally made by dpillari, Blurbs coded new behavior that causes Todd to slowly follow the player across the Commonwealth. If the cutout ever touches the player, they die instantly.
Todd Howard, the immortal snail
The mod is inspired by the long-running immortal snail thought experiment, which imagines a person granted immortality while being eternally pursued by a creature that kills them on contact. In Fallout 4, the snail is replaced with Bethesda’s Game Director and Executive Producer, Todd.
When the player is killed, Todd Howard delivers his infamous quote, “All of this just works,” turning a long-running meme into a literal death line.
The Todd Howard mod wasn’t the only change active during the run. Blurbs stacked multiple chaotic mods suggested by viewers, creating a progressively unstable version of Fallout 4 that culminated in a final showdown with the Mirelurk Queen. The video ends when the boss is defeated and Todd touches Blurbs for a final time, marking the end of the Fallout experiment.
After finishing the run, Blurbs announced he would be moving on to modding GTA V next, once again asking viewers to submit their worst possible mod ideas in the comments.
