The first Fallout was released back in 1997, and unlike the wildly successful titles that came after it, this iteration was far from an FPS; instead, it boasted an epic turn-based, isometric RPG. That was, until a brand-new mod completely changed the gameplay.
For many, the Fallout game series is synonymous with one thing: FPS gameplay. Sure, its cross between futurist and vintage styles, and an expansive world not unlike our own are probably some of the most recognizable elements, but its gameplay is what brings players in.
Now, that’s about to be changed, after modder and developer Alexander ‘Red888Guns’ Berezin revealed an exciting new mod that completely changes Fallout into an epic FPS.
Fallout: Bakersfield releases new trailer turning original game into FPS
Originally teased back in September 2022, near Fallout’s 25th anniversary, a brand new mod for Fallout was revealed, being completely remade in Doom’s engine. The mod acts as a remake of the classic Fallout game in GZDoom, making it a conversion mod you can play on ZDoom. So no need to rebuy the original Fallout.
Now, a new trailer has been released, offering a deeper look into the location, enemies, weapons, and, of course, how the mod will run.
It looks epic. It still retains the same UI as the original Fallout, and doesn’t try to upscale the graphics too much, keeping that classic 1997 feel, which is ideal for those returning to the game after all those years.
In the trailer, we see multiple ghouls, hear the classic Fallout music, and get a glimpse at some pretty powerful weapons as you blast your way through the enemies, oh, and a throwing knife, for a few more stealthy plays. Think Doom meets Fallout for the best comparison.
Unfortunately, as detailed by the developer, Fallout: Bakersfield is only “60%” finished at the time of writing, so don’t expect it to come out anytime soon.
