Fallout Season 2 is journeying to New Vegas, and Prime Video’s follow-up isn’t shying away from the game – in fact, it’ll star an Emmy nominee as a major villain.

The first season of Fallout ended on a tantalizing tease. After Hank (Kyle MacLachlan) escaped in Maximus’ power armor, he stumbled past a Deathclaw’s skull, before setting his eyes on a familiar horizon: the twinkling, distant lights of New Vegas, the titular location of the best Fallout game.

So, it’s fair to assume we’ll spend a fair bit of time in and around the iconic city, with Lucy (Ella Purnell) and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) setting off to find her father. According to writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet, we’ll see other locations from the games in Season 2, too.

The first teaser trailer has premiered at Gamescom, and in less than three minutes, we get glimpses of a lot – including Mr House.

In the first season, Robert House (the founder of RobCo Industries who effectively rules over New Vegas in the game) made a brief appearance, played by Rafi Silver.

Season 2 will see Justin Theroux (The Leftovers, Mulholland Drive) take over the role. We see a tense conversation between him and Cooper Howard. “I am the very best at what I do, and what I do… is I know everything,” he tells Cooper.

“I know there’s a war coming, the bombs will only be the beginning. My concern is you will do just about anything to save your family… I think you’re actually quite a violent man, you just don’t want to kill me… yet.”

No spoilers, but it remains to be seen if Theroux’s performance will extend beyond the moment the bombs fall on America.

“We’re super proud of the original story… but there was one character in particular from New Vegas that I was very excited to see more from,” executive producer Jonathan Nolan told the Gamescom crowd.

Robertson-Dworet also teased that Cooper “is going to uncover a huge conspiracy with greater implications for the wasteland.”

That’s not all. At the end of the teaser, we get our first peek at a Deathclaw (an incredibly strong, scary, and dangerous reptilian creature in the wasteland), a clip of Lucy firing a bullet that’s clearly inspired by VATS, and Lucy standing in the jaws of a Dinosaur statue, a nod to Dinky the T-Rex.

Earlier this year, Goggins teased how the second season will go beyond table-setting and establishing the show’s world, especially for non-gamers. “Now that people understand what the world is, this story takes it to a whole other level,” he told Complex.

“I’ve been around a long time and usually the second season really starts cooking. That’s when some real magic can happen.”
