Amid a massive shakeup at Ubisoft that’s resulted in six game cancellations, the fate of the long-troubled Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been revealed, and it’s reportedly still moving ahead.
Ubisoft announced a seismic shift to its structure on January 21, 2026. By shuffling all of its development resources into five “Creative Houses”, multiple studios have been shuttered, an unknown number of employees laid off, and six game projects have been cancelled.
Among the cancellations was the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, which had been in development since 2020. However, avoiding the same fate was a game that set records for the wrong reasons. Despite a troubled development pipeline lasting almost 18 years, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is reportedly still moving ahead.
The game, first revealed all the way back on May 30, 2008, is indeed safe amid the Ubisoft shakeup. There’s still no word on when we might actually see it, though.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 remains in development amid Ubisoft restructure
The first Beyond Good & Evil game launched in 2003 on the PS2, original Xbox, and the GameCube. It follows protagonist Jade through an action-packed, puzzle-heavy adventure to unravel an otherworldly mystery.
Beyond Good and Evil 2, revealed almost two decades ago, was set to follow it up soon after, but has faced numerous delays and total reboots along the way. We last saw the game in an official capacity in 2017. Since then, reports have suggested it was still in pre-production as of 2022.
Despite its troubled history, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson reports the project remains ongoing at Ubisoft, despite the shakeup. According to Henderson, the current version of the game has been in development since the 2017 showing, meaning this iteration alone has been worked on for nine years.
All up, it’s reportedly cost Ubisoft over half a billion dollars, given the record-breaking length of development. Previously, Duke Nukem Forever held the crown in the AAA space, famously spending 14 years in development before hitting store shelves.
As for when we might actually see the game next, well, that remains anyone’s guess. But if reports hold true, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still moving forward and if we’re lucky, may eventually see the light of day.
