It’s official – we got Finn Wolfhard with a buzzcut before Stranger Things Season 5. The Mike Wheeler star sent Netflix fans into a frenzy with his new look at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
To say the wait for the fifth chapter of the sci-fi series has been long would be an understatement. To put it into perspective, within the space between Seasons 4 and 5, we’ll have had four chapters of The Bear.
Sure, the Hollywood strikes had something to do with the delay, but also working around the cast’s schedules is not easy. Concerns about the ageing cast have ramped up the pressure, although filming officially wrapped up in December 2024, meaning there is an end in sight.
Ahead of its release, Wolfhard was invited to present at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Tokyo on Sunday, May 25, alongside his Stranger Things co-star Gaten Matarazzo. But while it was a chance to speak about his first studio album, his new look has garnered the most attention.
Stranger Things fans lose it over Finn Wolfhard buzz cut
While speaking with Billboard Japan about his debut LP ‘Happy Birthday’, Stranger Things fans were quick to notice Wolfhard has shaved his head, no longer donning his textbook long hair.
Sure, it’s not breaking news, but you’d think it was judging by the reaction on social media. Taking to X/Twitter, one fan wrote, “BALD FINN WOLFHARD HAS RUINED MY LIFE. STOPPPPPPP.”
“Me coming back to Stranger Things stan Twitter to see Finn Wolfhard is BALD,” said another, while a third added, “Finn Wolfhard you’re so funny please never go bal– HELLO?”
A fourth quipped, “Finn Wolfhard’s hair you will be missed. Fly high December 23 2002-May 25 2025.” One even went as far as to block him… jokingly, of course.
And then, of course, there are the obvious comparisons to Millie Bobby Brown’s buzzcut Eleven from back in the day. Maybe it’s just part of the Hawkins rite of passage.
Whatever your feelings about the look, the main news here is that Wolfhard has his album dropping very soon. If you’re interested, ‘Happy Birthday’ drops on June 6.
As for Stranger Things Season 5, Netflix has promised it’ll be out in 2025. Fingers crossed that we’ll have an exact release date soon.
