A Florida politician says the state needs a governor who can “do a little carjacking in GTA” and made a promise about GTA VI if he takes office.

Just like many video game fans, political candidate James Fishback is super excited for Rockstar Games to finally release GTA 6.

The long-awaited title has been in development for years and is finally set to launch on November 19, 2026.

Fishback, who is running to succeed Ron DeSantis as Florida’s next Governor, appealed to GTA fans on the campaign trail on January 23, promising a big event the day the game launches.

While out speaking, Fishback revealed his love for GTA and how he has every intention of playing VI.

“When it finally comes, when GTA 6 finally comes, we are gonna have a 24 hour long GTA 6 marathon in the governor’s mansion!” he said to applause. “The top students, every single top student at our public schools, is gonna come up here and play a little GTA 6.”

The CEO of Azoria further used his history with Grand Theft Auto to push his candidacy, arguing that Floridians “need a governor who can do a little carjacking in GTA.”

GTA 6 is taking place in the fictional state of Leonida, a stand-in for Florida, with Vice City being a fictionalized version of Miami.

Fishback noted that he grew up playing San Andreas, but that he “doesn’t condone beating up h**kers in GTA 6.”

This isn’t the only time a politician has brought up GTA 6. Back when the game was delayed last year, a Polish politician interrupted a session in Parliament to call the delay a “huge scandal.”

We’ll have to see exactly what happens and if Fishback will make good on his promise if he ends up winning.
