Former Xbox boss Mike Ybarra didn’t hold back after being accused of being a “bitter ex” in relation to his exit from Microsoft’s console division.
Ybarra was VP of Xbox Live and Game Pass before his departure in 2019 to join Blizzard. He subsequently left that role in 2024 after Microsoft acquired Blizzard and Activision.
Since then, the executive has frequently praised Sony and the PlayStation 5, while voicing concern about the future of Xbox. In June, Ybarra said that while he would always “bleed green,” changes were needed at Xbox “fast.”
Console wars never die
In a September 27 X/Twitter post, Ybarra, responding to news of Sony calling the PS5 their “most successful” console generation, said, “But hey, the console market isn’t a successful business. It is if you do it right.”
In response, a user, suggesting Ybarra held resentment for his former employer, quipped, “Ah, the bitter ex,” to which Ybarra bluntly fired back, “Your console is dead.”
Intentional or not, Ybarra’s comments since leaving Microsoft have incited debate on several fronts – not just between console owners, but fans of popular franchises.
