A Fortnite modder has shown off what it could look like if Pokemon were added to the game as Sidekicks, with a short clip featuring Cyndaquil quickly drawing attention across social media.

In November, Fortnite introduced Sidekicks, a new type of cosmetic that allows players to bring a small companion into matches. Unlike Back Bling pets from earlier seasons, Sidekicks are designed to follow players around the island but offer no gameplay advantage, making them purely cosmetic additions.

The system has already been used for several crossover characters that would not fit Fortnite’s standard character model. Since launch, Sidekicks have included SpongeBob SquarePants, Itchy from The Simpsons, and YouTuber CourageJD’s dog Louis, expanding the scope of collaborations Epic Games can support.

Cyndaquil, I choose you!

One modder used the feature to imagine what a partnership between Epic Games and Nintendo could look like. X user boredcrow24 posted a 22-second clip showing Cyndaquil, the Generation 2 Fire-type starter from Pokemon Gold and Silver, following the player around the map as a Sidekick.

In the video, Cyndaquil trails closely behind the player and emits audio similar to its in-game cry. The modder later confirmed in replies that the walking animation was taken directly from PokePark, a spin-off Pokemon title released on the Nintendo Wii.

The clip quickly sparked discussion among fans, many of whom said they would buy Sidekicks if Pokemon were ever officially added. Several replies suggested other Pokemon such as Totodile, Eevee, or Quaquaval, while others joked about the financial potential of turning each Pokemon into an individual cosmetic.

There is no indication that an official collaboration between Epic Games and Nintendo is planned. Nintendo has historically been selective about crossovers involving its characters, particularly outside its own platforms.

Even so, the mod highlights how Fortnite’s Sidekick system could easily support Pokemon-style companions, leaving many fans imagining what could be possible if the two companies ever partnered up.
