Fortnite players are boycotting new Sidekick feature over “disgusting” prices

Sidekicks have officially been added to Fortnite, bringing adorable little pals along on your adventures through the battle royale and beyond, but players aren’t pleased and are already calling for others to boycott them.

Fortnite’s newest feature is Sidekicks, which react to the world around you and feature permanent physical traits, alongside cosmetics and unique names. However, players aren’t happy, calling the pricing and lack of features a “scam” and asking other players to boycott.

Fortnite players slam “disgusting” new feature

Sharing their frustration on the Fortnite subreddit, one player begged fans, “Please do not buy Sidekicks,” explaining that “the greed on display is disgusting and should not be rewarded,” referencing the high price and limited features.

“For those who don’t know: all base customizations are permanent, and if you ever want to change these, you need to buy the sidekick again,” explained the player, adding, “At the current price point, there’s absolutely no reason why these styles need to be hidden behind an additional paywall. If we’re expected to pay $15-$20 for a virtual pet, the least we should be able to do is customize them however we want.”

They continued by saying, “the only way to send a message that this is not ok with us is to avoid buying sidekicks,” asking other players to follow suit.

The post quickly took off, with thousands upvoting and hundreds agreeing. “Vote with your money,” commented one player. “In the past, this has worked… If enough of us are vocal, they will listen.”

“This is our next battle, guys. Please do not buy Sidekicks,” added another, with others echoing the sentiment: “I’m in. Won’t buy any until the prices get fixed.”

More were quick to suggest ways in which the Sidekicks could be more useful in-game, justifying the cost. “Not only that, but the fact that they literally do nothing is wild. I wish they would grab fallen gold and ammo or duplicates of something you already have that stack, like med packs or slurp bottles.”

Interestingly, fans have reported a survey going around asking about the pricing and the new feature, so the Sidekicks could be subject to change if fans aren’t pleased about the pricing, permanent customization, or lack of abilities.
