Equalizer star Jason Statham has arrived in Fortnite as part of a custom map to promote his new movie, Shelter.
In many ways, Fortnite is more than just a game these days. It’s a platform that studios use to promote their new TV shows and movies, as we’ve seen the likes of Star Wars, Stranger Things, and even Marvel use crossovers in the lead-up to new releases.
It’s an effective tactic, given that the game still attracts millions of players every month. The latest movie to appear in Fortnite is the upcoming action thriller, Shelter, complete with its own limited-time mode starring lead Jason Statham.
Fight alongside Jason Statham in new Shelter Fortnite mode
As revealed by IGN, the official Shelter experience is live right now in-game, ahead of the film’s release on January 30. Players team up with Statham, or at least his character Michael Mason, as he looks to protect a young girl who washed up on his Scottish island home.
It takes place on a brand-new map, built in Fortnite, and tasks you with fighting off waves of enemies while a storm closes in around you.
Along the way, you earn cash that you can spend on permanent upgrades that carry over into future runs. You’re given random gear by an adorable dog, but you can even level up your RNG to increase your chances of getting top-tier guns.
In line with other roguelikes like Hades, there’s also a “Rebirth” system, which offers powerful buffs for resetting your progress and restarting from the first wave, giving the mode “infinite replayability.”
If this sounds up your alley, the Shelter Fortnite mode is live now and can be found through the main menu, or by using Island Code: 2883-8391-6703.
