An avid game collector has put their haul on display in a rather unique way – by building their very own GameStop in the basement.

For some, collecting games is all about ticking every single box, ensuring you possess every game available on a certain console, for instance. For others, it’s more about how the collection is displayed.

One now viral collection falls into the latter camp, as a lifelong gamer decided to build out their own version of a GameStop store… in their basement.

Describing it as a “once in a lifetime passion project,” the basement now displays all manner of gaming hardware and software from over the years, showcased much like how you’d find it on sale at a local GameStop.

A Reddit post on December 23, 2025 quickly turned heads. From the flooring to the shelving, this unique collection was on display in a way that closely resembled a GameStop.

Explaining their process, one that took “all Summer,” the collector outlined how they have been buying games and gaming products since the late 90’s. And while the physical goods are part of the fun, they also share a love for the spaces that are associated with many of the items.

“I grew up going to both large and small game stores,” the collector said.

“The spaces were always so magical. I profoundly remember my local Toys R Us and EB Games during the launch of the Dreamcast. The kiosks, the magazines. I guess I simply wanted to create a retail-forward design that I could call my own.”

As it turns out, it’s not just games, either. One half of the space is dedicated to the GameStop-style video game store. Meanwhile, the other half is for VHS tapes “with collectibles all over.”

A local materials business happened to be shutting down, and the collector took it as an opportunity to pursue their passion project. They were able to grab all sorts of fixtures, shelving, and equipment at a “significantly reduced price” to bring their vision to life.
