GameStop has hilariously poked fun at itself in a new advert marking the Switch 2 restock, joking about their previous blunder on launch day.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was released on June 5, with millions of fans buying the console or preordering to ensure they get a copy. Despite this, companies like GameStop ran out of Switch 2s, but not before causing chaos on launch day.

When the Switch 2 dropped, players rushed to stores to grab their console, but some unlucky GameStop customers in New York found themselves extremely disappointed. After picking up their console, they discovered the screen had staple holes in it, created when the store stapled the receipt to the box. Tons of customers were affected, and it quickly became a worldwide story.

GameStop roast themselves over Switch 2 staple blunder

Many worried they’d have to wait up to three months for the restock before they could get a stapleless Switch 2, but that’s not the case. Less than two weeks after the original release date, GameStop has revealed that they’ve had their Switch 2 restock.

However, they announced this restock by making fun of their previous blunder. In the advert, they showcase the Switch 2, but add the line: “Staples not included. Find a Switch 2 restock at GameStop today,” attaching an image of a stapler with the words “do not use on box” in the image.

This advert was met with plenty of enjoyment from Switch 2 fans, with many calling it “Marketing genius” and exclaiming that “That’s actually a great ad, kinda feels like one of those ads from the 90s.”

This isn’t the first time GameStop has addressed the issue. On June 5, shortly after the blunder went viral, GameStop explained that they’ve “addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens—isolated to one store. Replacements have been offered. Staplers have been confiscated,” adding yet another joke with the post.

Thankfully, the issue was only with one store, so the majority of fans didn’t have to worry about the dreaded red stapler. And it’s clear that anyone grabbing those Switch 2 restocks won’t need to worry about any unexpected stapler marks, as GameStop won’t be repeating that ever again.
