Chovy has established himself as statistically the best mid laner in the LCK, maintaining dominance through exceptional farming, strategic laning, and consistent mechanical excellence across multiple seasons.

He’s statistically the best mid laner in the LCK and has been for years. He farms better than everyone else and can build massive leads without needing a single kill, showing that he just has a different eye for the game than everyone else.

While the Worlds trophy remains his ultimate goal, Chovy has built an impressive resume with MSI and EWC victories, demonstrating his ability to perform on the international stage.

Rather than dwelling on what hasn’t been achieved yet, Chovy remains focused on continuous improvement.

Building a legacy

South Korea is the most competitive region in League of Legends, and it’s not close. There’s a reason teams from all over the world import players from this region, and standing out from everyone else as a pro is no small feat.

Chovy, meanwhile, was a big name from the get-go. He was one of the hottest prospects on the market before he got picked up by Griffn and hit the ground running, immediately showing himself to be the best laner in the LCK. That hasn’t changed since, though even Chovy himself still feels like he has a lot to prove.

When we asked a question that framed him as one of the best players in the world, he pushed back on it. He’s already achieved more than most League of Legends pros could dream of, and yet he’s not remotely satisfied.

“I’m truly grateful that you say that. However, I think there are still many areas where I need to grow and improve. I believe that to prove such titles, greater results need to back them up.”

There’s no greater title than Worlds, and it’s the one that he’s still aiming for. It’s the only empty spot in Chovy’s incredibly stacked trophy cabinet at this point, something he hopes to change this year. He’s even been putting a greater focus on his physical health to try and keep himself sharp and ensure he’s able to keep fighting for that title.

“I’m making a lot of effort to [exercise] within the always limited time I have. For me, consistently maintaining peak performance is most important.”

Chovy’s choice of gear

Additionally, Chovy cited the evolution of hardware as another factor in his continued improvement. When it comes to high-performance mice, a lot has changed since his debut.

The Logitech G PRO Wireless is the latest mouse he’s been using on stage, and he’s very happy with how it performs in comparison to the peripherals he had access to just a few years ago. It’s been his constant companion through both the MSI and EWC victories this season, where precision and reliability aren’t negotiable.

“I definitely think the evolution of gaming hardware has had a decisive impact on players being able to immerse themselves more deeply in games and concentrate better. I’m using the Logitech G PRO Wireless, and I’m really satisfied with it. I think my mouse has been a really important key factor in all my achievements so far.”

It’s worth noting that Chovy is someone who, when asked if he’s the best player in the world, deflects and says he has more to prove. For him to explicitly credit his equipment as a “key factor” in his success carries genuine weight, especially for a player whose entire style revolves around finding incremental advantages through mechanical precision and farming efficiency.

All that said, the thing that stood out most when speaking with Chovy is just how hungry he is to win. His motivation hasn’t fallen off at all in the years since he began competing. What’s still motivating him to compete at such a high level, and how has he been able to stay on top for so long?

Conquering your demons

In a way, Chovy’s a trendsetter. He doesn’t pioneer new metas, come up with new strategies, and counter picks like other, more experimental players, but he also doesn’t need to. Chovy just plays better than every other mid laner individually. Not only does he set the bar for how mid lane should be played, he raises that bar every time he steps on stage.

Laning against Chovy is suffocating. He outfarms, outrotates, and outsmarts you, and ultimately, outplays you. Consistently, every match he’s in, he finds a foothold and gains an advantage over the opposing mid laner.

However, maintaining this level of dominance for so long has required thousands of hours of practice. Getting to the top is one thing; staying there is another.

“My laning style was naturally acquired through countless practice sessions and experience,” Chovy explained. “Every moment was a new testing ground for me, and I failed many times in that process. Through that, I think I continued to learn.”
