Gen V fans have one major Homelander complaint about Season 2 Episode 8

There’s a lot to unpack in Gen V Season 2 Episode 8, ‘Trojan’, which sets up what’s coming in The Boys’ fifth and final chapter. As fans dive into the finale, one major complaint has emerged and it’s related to the most infamous supe of all: Homelander.

Homelander’s presence is felt throughout Gen V Season 2, whether it’s through propaganda posters plastered around Godolkin University or Sage secretly plotting behind his back with Cipher (aka Thomas Godolkin).

Then there’s Marie’s (Jaz Sinclair) connection to the milk-loving sociopath: they’re the only two known survivors of Project Odessa, an initiative launched to create god-like supes. And given Marie’s powers, she might be the only one who can truly beat Homelander.

With all of this in mind, he was expected to make an appearance in the Gen V Season 2 finale. Warning: spoilers ahead!

Gen V Season 2 finale leads to Homelander complaint

Homelander only shows up by name in Gen V Season 2 Episode 8, as he calls Sage after Thomas Godolkin takes over God U and the rankings. The fact that he isn’t seen in the flesh has left some fans feeling disappointed.

“Honestly super disappointed Homelander didn’t play some role in the finale, if he did it would have been an INCREDIBLE set up for The Boys Season 5,” wrote one on Reddit

“I thought he was gonna show up!” said another, while a third added, “I’m just pissed it’s over. I was expecting Homelander, can’t lie.”

There’s another Homelander-shaped disappointment that has been voiced after the finale. And this is where the spoilers come into play: Marie kills Godolkin, Victoria Neuman style, thereby ending his plan to overpower her and then Homelander.

Given The Boys Season 5 is next in line in the Prime Video franchise, there were hopes to see some sort of showdown between Godolkin and Homelander, but these hopes have now been dashed.

“Godolkin dead, would’ve loved to see him control Homelander,” wrote one, with another stating, “Godolkin controlling Homelander would be insane.”

“Kind of disappointed Godolkin died so easily. I would have loved to see an interaction between him and Homelander,” added a third.

“They could have easily ended the episode with Godolkin controlling Marie, killing one of the Gen V members, and it leading to Starlight saving the rest of them and running away.

“So you’ll have Season 5 of The Boys, Godolkin controlling Marie, as well as how it’ll go with Homelander when they meet for the first time and obviously everything else that’s going to be happening. Definitely a missed opportunity imo.”

The Boys fans think Godolkin criticism is missing the point

However, others think the criticisms are missing the point. “I mean, the stakes are Homelander and Butcher vs. the Boys,” said one.

A second chimed in, “Gen V was never meant to be more than a The Boys side plot; they needed a level up against Homelander and now they got a bunch of supes that are gonna help against him (and the Seven).”

As for Homelander being a no-show, many viewers felt that Sage ignoring his call was even more terrifying than if he had rocked up in person.

Sharing a screenshot of his name on Sage’s phone, one wrote, “The scariest frame in the series.” Another said, “And she declined his call. Bro won’t be happy, you just know he’s in the hallway hyperventilating.”

“This moment had more tension than the fight,” added a third, while a fourth chimed in, “YOU DO NOT GHOST HOMELANDER!”

They’re not wrong – but then again, Sage is always one step ahead. We’ll have to wait until The Boys Season 5 drops in 2026 to find out what happens next.
