Sucker Punch has confirmed that Ghost of Yotei will match Ghost of Tsushima in size and scope, offering a similarly rich experience for story seekers, explorers, and platinum hunters alike.

Ghost of Yotei made a strong impression during PlayStation’s latest State of Play, where fans got their first extended look at the sequel’s brutal combat, new weapons like the Odachi and Matchlock Rifle, and its striking Hokkaido setting.

With a new protagonist and a sharper focus on player freedom, the next chapter in the Ghost series is aiming to evolve the formula without losing what made the original a hit.

Now, Sucker Punch has confirmed that Ghost of Yotei will match Ghost of Tsushima in size and scope, offering a similarly rich experience for story seekers, explorers, and platinum hunters alike.

Ghost of Yotei has a similar scale to Ghost of Tsushima

In a recent interview with VGC, creative director Jason Connell revealed that the team designed Ghost of Yotei with the same level of ambition that defined their 2020 breakout hit.

“We designed the game in mind with some of the similar numbers, in terms of scale and scope of the last experience,” Connell said. “In that way, we actually found it to be quite satisfying, and there were some good numbers to jump off of.”

That means players can expect to finish the main story in around 25 hours, which is the average completion time of its predecessor. Of course, delving into the game’s side content and gunning for the Platinum trophy will likely take players to around the 60-hour mark.

“We feel that the experience of playing through Ghost of Yotei, whether you’re just ripping through the story, or you’re somebody that likes to just go through the whole world and explore, or you’re that hardcore platinum chaser – that it is a similar experience [to that of Ghost of Tsushima], we expect, in terms of the time commitment,” Connell added.

The team previously stated that Ghost of Yotei would lean even harder into player freedom, encouraging players to follow their curiosity rather than objective markers. With a new protagonist, new setting, and a slew of deadly weapons, Yotei is one of our most anticipated releases of this year.

Ghost of Yotei launches this October 2, 2025, exclusively on PlayStation 5.
