Prime Video has revealed the first look at Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus in the God of War TV show, and fans think it “looks like AI.”
The upcoming series is based on 2018’s God of War, which follows Kratos as he takes his son Atreus on a pilgrimage to scatter his mother’s ashes from the highest peak in the nine realms.
The game adapts elements of Norse mythology, as the story slowly reveals to both the player and Atreus that the young boy is actually the Norse God, Loki.
The God of War show has recruited a talented cast to bring the beloved story to life, with actors like Ólafur Darri Ólafsson playing Thor, Ed Skrein as Baldur, and original game actor Alastair Duncan as Mimir. However fans had a disappointing reaction to the first image from the series
Fans think the God of War TV series “looks like AI”
The first image from the God of War series shows Kratos and Atreus in a dense forest as the young boy aims a bow and arrow at something off-screen. But fans aren’t impressed, and some even criticized the first image for looking as if it was AI generated.
One fan on X wrote: “Hopefully this is AI as it looks terrible,” another person added, “This almost looks AI generated,” and third chimed in with, “I’m surprised I thought this was fake.”
But the complaints also criticized the general look of the image, as one netizen wrote, “Casting + perfect. This pic? Not so much. Buff the man up!” Another added, “Is that a joke? That’s terrible.”
The shot is clearly meant to show Kratos teaching his son how to hunt, leaning into the themes from the game, as Atreus comes of age on the emotional journey across the nine realms and learns to become a man.
