The first-ever Godzilla LEGO set has been revealed, and monsterverse fans from around the world will finally be able to build Toho’s legendary beast brick by brick.
On June 17, LEGO officially confirmed that they have greenlit a fan-made Godzilla set that was submitted to the LEGO Ideas program. The creator, Matthew Esposito, also known as MattE720, quickly received 10k supporters, fans from around the world backed his blocky design of Toho’s classic creature.
The LEGO brick model is based on Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla movies, with the designer using Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire as their main inspiration.
Godzilla LEGO set finally greenlit
Mathew’s rendition of the monolithic monster looks pretty chunky. The LEGO version of this prehistoric beast is particularly striking thanks to its colossal legs, which help support the model’s large frame.
Godzilla’s iconic dorsal plates have also been recreated and run along his spine, while his tail has an articulated design so that it can be moved side to side. His mouth, arms, legs, and feet appear to be adjustable.
Matthew has even recreated Godzilla’s iconic heat ray breath, with a blue LEGO brick beam that can be attached to the monster’s mouth.
The flexibility of the model would certainly make it a must-have purchase for anyone looking to recreate awesome action sequences or even create their own crossover scenarios. Having Godzilla duke it out with the Millennium Falcon or crush Hogwarts Castle (sorry, Harry!) would be pretty comical.
While the final design, scale, and price of LEGO Godzilla have yet to be revealed, it’s clear that both fans and the original designer are keen to see what the finished product will look like.
“I can only imagine what you guys at LEGO would improve on with the model,” wrote Matthew. “It would be a dream of mine to witness how you guys would be able to design your version of this model with the LEGO pieces at your disposal.”
