Not to be confused with previous smaller releases of the Scott Snyder-Greg Capullo run of Batman, this first-volume omnibus collects issues #0-33 along with #23.2, and the Batman Annual #1-2.

Vol. 2 of the Scott Snyder Batman run (covering Batman #34-52 and other issues from various Batman comics) is also on sale at Amazon for $68.92 at 45% off from $125, along with being on sale at Amazon UK for £65.94.
Whilst part of DC’s now-ended New 52 continuity, along with more recent comics like Absolute Batman taking the fandom by storm, this Scott Snyder run is a must-read if you’ve never dived in before.
It was this particular 2012 series that introduced the Court of Owls to DC altogether, presenting one of the biggest twists in Batman lore by having an ancient Illuminati-like criminal organisation run Gotham behind the scenes for generations — pushing the Dark Knight to his limits.
Even by 2025 standards, I still find it a gripping read as ever, seeing Bruce Wayne start to realise the city he’s protected for so long isn’t really his after all, as well as suddenly being way out of his depth and seeing what he’ll do to pull himself out.
Then, there’s Death of the Family, seeing a de-faced Joker (who’s stapled said face back on, because Joker), being even more unhinged than usual in seeing how far he can push both Batman and his loved ones.
For comic casuals who only follow select big-name stories in DC, Scott Snyder is also the writer behind the later-published Dark Nights: Metal series; that particular gem’s the one introducing an alternate Batman with a Joker personality.
If you’re a DC fan who loves the darker Batman stories most of all, it’s safe to say these two omnibuses covering Snyder’s earlier years will have you covered.
Speaking of Absolute Batman, though, Absolute Batman Vol 1 is also available to buy right now at Amazon from $9.99 and £8.53 at Amazon UK.
