Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, the publisher behind Grand Theft Auto 6, has admitted there are “extraordinary expectations” on Rockstar Games, but they are determined to break them.

GTA 6 was first officially revealed by Rockstar at the end of 2023, with a 90-second trailer setting the internet ablaze. Even though they initially said it would have a holiday 2025 release date, the long-awaited trailer has been delayed.

At the start of May, Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 needed more time and would, instead, be released on May 26, 2026. “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” they said.

The GTA devs also noted that they understood that expectations are sky high for the game, especially after the success of GTA 5.

GTA 6 has “extraordinary expectations” on it

According to Strauss Zelnick, the devs are determined to beat those “extraordinary expectations” that fans have built up.

“We try not to pump expectations, right? I think Rockstar’s whole stock and trade is to have these extraordinary expectations and to still beat them. I know that’s their goal,” he told CNBC on August 11. “I know it is going to be an amazing game.”

Zelnick added that the Rockstar team has “a lot going on” with regards to other work too, but this is the “primary focus” for them.

The Take-Two boss also wouldn’t rule out a $100 price tag for the game. “Our goal always is to deliver more value than what we charge…,” he told Variety when asked about the cost of it.

This has been a regular answer of Zelnick’s since the higher price tag was first rumored, but he has also touched on possible special editions as well. Which would, of course, start costing in the $100+ range.
