The creator of the original Saints Row has said he hopes GTA 6 costs $100, arguing that Rockstar’s long-awaited sequel deserves to be the first game to break the price barrier.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated games in history, and it’s expected to break all the records when it finally arrives in May of 2026. But one of the biggest talking points surrounding it ahead of launch has been how much it will cost.
There have been many rumors and claims from analysts that it could be priced as high as $100, much more than the $70 we’ve become accustomed to, with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick refusing to rule it out earlier this year.
Naturally, this has some players worried about the precedent it could set, but the creator of the original Saints Row believes that if any game should charge that amount — it’s GTA 6.
Saints Row creator hopes GTA 6 costs $100
Speaking in an interview with Esports Insider, Chris Stockman, Design Director on the first Saints Row in 2006, claimed that Rockstar charging $100 for the game wouldn’t necessarily make it the industry standard.
“They’re the only ones that can get away with it,” he said. “I don’t think it’s a rising tide that floats all boats. I think that there’ll be a tremendous amount of backlash if everyone switched to $100. Not all games are created equal.”
But while many people are urging Rockstar to stick to a $70 or $80 price tag, Stockman actually hopes that GTA 6 costs more.
“I think GTA is the only one that can get away with it, and I hope they do. I really hope it’s $100. I think it deserves to be $100,” he continued.
“The scope and magnitude of this production deserves that price tag, but not everything is treated equally. It would be a disaster if everyone tried to match them.”
