GTA 6 insider says delay wasn’t caused by firings as game is “complete”

A gaming insider, who previously claimed that GTA 6 is “complete,” has doubled down on those claims following the new delay, and has also claimed that the recent firings have nothing to do with it.

On November 6, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed even further, targeting a new release date of November 19, 2026. The news of the delay followed protests at the developers’ studio in Edinburgh and Take-Two’s office in London, about recent firings.

Between 30-40 developers from different UK studios, and another in Canada, were fired for “gross misconduct,” with Rockstar claiming that they’d leaked details about GTA 6. The devs involved, however, claim it is a case of “union busting” from Rockstar, as all the workers had been unionized.

Some GTA fans believe that the release date delay is in part because of the firings, but an insider who has spoken to multiple devs has batted back at that.

GTA 6 insider claims it “content complete” again

Kiwi Talkz, who previously reported that GTA 6 is “content complete,” has doubled down on that.

“I want to clarify a few things regarding GTA 6, since a lot of BS is circulating around. 1. The union layoffs in the UK and the delay are not related,” Kiwi Talkz said. “There are 6000+ employees working at Rockstar, you aren’t delaying a game over 35 people getting laid off, that’s not how these things work, not to mention Rockstar devs were telling me about a delay well before the union layoffs.”

“I’ve seen apparently some “insider” saying it’s being delayed till 2027 and the game is in a messy state. I highly doubt this, and no one I have spoken to has corroborated it,” he added. “The game is content complete, all the work from here on out is optimising the hell out of it and making sure all the systems work to prevent a Cyberpunk scenario.”

Following the delay, an anonymous developer at Rockstar took to the GTAForums to reveal that some employees “fear” for their jobs and that the firings could have a knock-on effect for further delays.

“These colleagues of mine were hard workers who have spent many, many years at R* in critical roles. With colleagues who have been at R* for more that 18 years and none of them have ever had a disciplinary in that time. They are not easily replaced and will certainly affect us in making our project deadlines,” they said.
