A fresh GTA 6 leak has revealed the original story ideas, including one that was scrapped for being “too dark” by Rockstar Games’ publishers, Take-Two.

Over the last few years, there have been a number of leaks and claims about the Grand Theft Auto 6 story. As Rockstar has confirmed there will be two main characters – Jason and Lucia – they have rubbished any of those claims that didn’t include a Bonnie and Clyde-esque story.

Even though GTA 6 has been delayed until May 26, 2026, fans are still incredibly eager for more. They’ve been digging through the second trailer, new screenshots, and character profiles for any further hints at the story.

However, if ex-Rockstar boss Dan Houser had gotten his way, things would have looked incredibly different.

Original GTA 6 story would have been police crime plot

That is according to a new leak from Fravilys, a French reporter, who cites a former Rockstar Magazine editor as their source for the scrapped story details.

The original story for GTA 6, according to the report, was supposed to focus on three protagonists – an old cop, his troubled son, and the right-hand man of a Colombian drug lord. It would have seen the police officer “slowly descend into organized crime to protect his drug-addicted son.”

“This version was in development until late 2016 but was canceled by Take-Two for being too dark and not aligned with their expectations,” the report says.

That being scrapped led to several rewrites, including one idea that would have been “less dark” by still focused on a drug smuggler’s right-hand man trying to make their way with their own narcotics empire.

This would have been intertwined a female police officer putting herself into the criminal underworld of Vice City to try and root it out.

Another would have seen a former soldier drafted into the story in place of the police officer, but again, that was scrapped.
