Halo Studios has discussed its decision to bring Master Chief and the Halo universe to PlayStation, saying it “feels the weight” of the event’s significance in respecting the franchise’s legacy while expanding its audience.

Speaking in an interview with GamesRadar, the developer’s executive producer Damon Conn and creative director Max Szlagor addressed what the PlayStation release means for both long-time fans and players who have never experienced Xbox’s flagship shooter before.

Halo devs want to “bring along series veterans”

Discussing Master Chief’s debut on PlayStation, Conn said the team’s ultimate aim was to do justice to long-time fans of the almost 25-year-old franchise while bringing in new fans that a platform launch could achieve.

“We hope to bring along the series veterans who have been with us for the past 25 years and have them play with an entirely new generation.”

Continuing, he said, “There are people who have never been exposed to Halo. Maybe they’ve always been on Sony products, switched consoles at a certain point, or just missed it at the time. We want to bring players back together.”

Szlagor added that expanding to new platforms fit Halo Studios’ wider goals for the franchise. “Halo is best played when we have a large, healthy community. We see this as a way to grow, expand, and reconnect the Halo community.”

Conn then underlined how seriously the studio is taking Halo’s arrival on PlayStation, describing it as a major responsibility rather than a simple platform expansion.

“We want to honor the Halo legacy on PlayStation, and we’re paving the way to expand our Halo universe – that’s how we see it. And it’s not a small thing. We don’t and we won’t take it lightly. We definitely feel the weight of it.”

While Halo: Combat Evolved will mark the series’ debut on PlayStation, Microsoft has already released several first-party games on Sony’s platform, including Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 5.

Scheduled for a general 2026 release, Campaign Evolved will include completely new missions and gameplay improvements that weren’t present in the 2001 original.
