A Hollow Knight: Silksong player is on a mission to beat the game using words as a weapon, in place of, you know, actual weapons.

While the first game was no walk in the park, Silksong infamously ramped up the difficulty to the point that many fans were desperate for it to be made easier. But this added challenge hasn’t stopped players from trying to beat it in weird and wonderful ways.

We’ve seen runs that involve taking absolutely no damage, skipping most of the combat, and even a saxophone controller. Now, one player is looking to defeat every boss using the power of the spoken word.

Silksong player attempts a taunt-only run

YouTuber user ‘Bloblumord The 3rd’ is posting a playthrough of Silksong where the only hits they’re allowed to land come from Hornet’s taunt, although environmental or damage from other NPCs is allowed. This can be done using V on a keyboard or clicking in the right stick on a controller, causing our hero to shout “garama,” which we assume is some kind of Pharloom trash talk.

What many players don’t know is that performing this in close proximity to an enemy actually deals a small amount of damage. Specifically, around six with the starter Hunter’s Crest active, according to Bloblumord.

As you might expect, this means that every fight takes much longer than usual, as they can’t exploit bosses’ weaknesses as well as they would normally. For example, it took about an hour to beat Trobbio.

In their last video, posted on December 17, they were tackling the High Halls in Act 2, so they’re making pretty good progress. However, they have had to recruit some NPCs to tackle certain sections, as the taunt struggles to damage flying enemies.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the player has attempted something like this. There is a video on their channel of them beating the final boss, Lost Lace, in this exact method, but it now appears they’re going back to do the rest of the game.
