Hollow Knight Silksong will finally be playable after years of waiting. However, you’ll have to be at Gamescom in order to be among the first to try it out.
Hollow Knight Silksong has become a bit of a meme, with plenty of fans joking that the game will never release, let alone become playable. After all, it’s been over six years since Silksong was officially announced, and still, only very few details have been revealed.
However, in the 2025 Xbox Showcase, during the announcement of the ROG Xbox Ally X, we got another glimpse at the game, suggesting it’ll either release around the same time as the handheld or will at least be playable. Well, technically, it’s playable much, much earlier than many expected.
Hollow Knight Silksong gets playable demo at Gamescom
As revealed by an Xbox @ gamescom 2025 blog, those attending Gamescom will be able to “play Hollow Knight: Silksong with a new demo – on PC or ROG Xbox Ally X.”
As highlighted in the blog itself: “This year, the Xbox booth will be full of fantastic upcoming games from Xbox and our incredible third-party partners coming to Xbox, PC, and Game Pass this Holiday and beyond – and yes, that includes Hollow Knight: Silksong,” meaning fans will be able to try out the adventure way before release.
You’ll be able to try out the game on either PC or the new Xbox Ally, which will both be available for demo during the event.
It’s not explored as to how long the demo will be, but you’ll be able to go “hands-on” with Hollow Knight Silksong for the first time ever. On top of this, there’s also a playable demo happening in an Australian museum in September, in case you can’t make it.
So, if you’re heading to Gamescom, you know where you need to be. If not, well, we can expect to see some news regarding the game if everyone’s beginning to try it out.
