If you haven’t been getting spammed by Amazon notifications on your phone, I’m happy to be the one to inform you that it’s Prime Big Deals Day, an October variant of Amazon’s usual Prime Day sales. It’s a great time to stock up everyday essentials like toothpaste or batteries, but if you’re anything like me, it’s also an excuse to go a little wild with the impulse purchases. That means adding to the Blu-ray collection.
Aside from the spread of movies included in Amazon’s “Buy 2 Get 1 Free’ deal, Prime members can also access massive discounts on individual 4K releases. These are some of the lowest prices we’ve seen so far on new releases like Sinners, and I highly recommend scrolling through the full list to see if there’s any deals on your personal favorites. If you need some inspiration, however, I’m personally impressed with the spread of horror movie deals and have decided to invest in some spooky movie nights this month.
Stock Up on Horror Movies Ahead of Halloween in Amazon’s Massive Blu-ray Sale
Some of these Prime Day discounts are the first price cuts we’ve seen on newer releases. Sinners was director Ryan Coogler’s first foray into the horror genre, but I think it’s safe to say he nailed it, and Eric Goldman’s 9/10 review of the movie for IGN seems to agree. We’re also seeing the lowest price yet on Final Destination: Bloodlines, another 2025 release, which in my view, has one of the most gruesome deaths in the entire franchise.
Then we have a selection of what I consider standout horror flicks of the modern generation, including last year’s Nosferatu, the Philippou brothers’ Talk to Me (no deals on Bring Her Back, unfortunately), and Ari Aster’s Hereditary.
Of course, one of the greatest joys in collecting physical media is paying tribute to the classics. Highlights here include the 4K restorations Jaws, The Shining, and Rosemary’s Baby. The collector's edition of Halloween and uncut version of A Nightmare on Elm Street are also at their lowest ever prices.
Besides individual movies, you can also find massive discounts on full box sets. This is where you can get real bang for your buck. My top pick is the Paranormal Activity collection, where you get to see the development from a low-budget independent movie to one of the biggest horror franchises.
