HBO just dropped the official teaser trailer for House of the Dragon Season 3, promising dark times ahead for Rhaenyra Targaryen and the long-awaited civil war for the Iron Throne.
Season 2 of the Game of Thrones prequel series ended with tensions at breaking point. Tyland Lannister secured new alliances, Aegon left King’s Landing, and multiple armies – including the Lannisters and the North – began mobilizing.
But despite all the build-up, it stopped short of delivering the large-scale battle many viewers had anticipated. This led to the Season 2 finale receiving backlash from fans who were expecting more action (some even described it as a “70-minute trailer” for the next chapter).
However, showrunner Ryan Condal has since promised that Season 3 will deliver the goods, covering four major events from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. And if the new teaser trailer is anything to go by, warfare is on the horizon.
House of the Dragon Season 3 teaser trailer promises the war fans have been waiting for
The teaser shows that House of the Dragon Season 3 has a darker tone, with all the political manoeuvring of Season 2 giving way to open, bloody conflict. Check out the trailer below:
As you’ll see, it kicks off with Alicent walks toward Aemond on the throne, who asks, “Where were you?” It then cuts to Rhaenyra announcing what Alicent told her in the Season 2 finale, but she’s soon warned, “You cannot trust her.”
The trailer also shows an injured Aegon walking through the woods with Larys, an army led by newcomer James Norton as Ormund Hightower, and Rhaenyra crying while Daemon can be heard saying, “This is the moment you become queen.”
There are plenty of huge fights to come in the series, both in the sky and on the ground. Firstly, everyone’s got their eyes peeled for the Battle of the Gullet – one of the bloodiest sea battles in Westeros’ history.
Then, of course, there’s the Battle Above the God’s Eye, but perhaps most anticipated of all is Rhaenyra’s conquest of King’s Landing, retaking her place on the Iron Throne.
The teaser gives us flashes of brutal, bloody battle, and it’s left House of the Dragon fans feeling excited. “House of the Dragon Season 3 trailer promises the epic Targaryen war we’ve been waiting for,” wrote one. “I will be glued to my screen watching Rhaenyra.”
“This season will be INSANE,” said another, while a third added, “We are so back.” Although there’s no official release date just yet, we know House of the Dragon Season 3 will be premiering in June 2026.
