Grand Theft Auto 6’s map could be double the size of GTA 5’s setting, as a new update to the community mapping project has found some new details.
For the longest time, Grand Theft Auto fans speculated about GTA 6’s setting, suggesting that Rockstar Games could break out of the usual cities and focus on something entirely new. However, when it was announced that they’d be revisiting Vice City, but in a modern setting, that went down with fans anyway.
While the wait for GTA 6’s release is still ongoing, Rockstar has given fans a few different looks at the modernized version of Vice City, as well as the wider state of Leonida.
With no official map or layout being released, fans have been working tirelessly to figure things out by themselves. This has led to community mapping projects that have combined real-life locations with everything we’ve seen from Rockstar to this point.
In the newest update, which came back in January, mapper YANIS finished off the panhandle for the northernmost part of the map. That has become a flatter line, rather than the previous iteration, which curved more to the west.
Additionally, there are changes to the bottom of the map, with YANIS suggesting that the long-rumored naval base will be placed within the Florida Keys. This is based on shots from GTA 6’s second trailer, where radars and air traffic control towers can be seen in the south.
What is most striking about the update is just the sheer size of the rumored GTA 6 map versus those that came in GTA 5 and GTA 4. It is at least double the size of the map from V, and is monstrous compared to IV.
As noted, this layout isn’t the official one, and we’ll know more on that front once Rockstar starts the marketing for GTA 6 ahead of launch.
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick reiterated that they are confident that the November 19, 2026, release date will stay intact, and that marketing for the game will kick into overdrive in the summer.
So, keep your eyes peeled.
