Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has been a hit with critics and audiences alike this past week, and below you’ll find details of what the anime needs to earn to break even.

It’s been a stellar few weeks for anime at the global box office, most notably through the success of the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie.

That film hit US screens on September 12, 2025, and quickly became the highest grossing Japanese movie of all-time, with a global haul of more than $666 million.

Now Chainsaw Man is getting in on the act, with the international release of the Reze Arc movie bringing in big numbers.

How much Chainsaw Man needs to make to break even

With a reported production budget of just over $4 million (¥600 million), Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc needs to make around $10 million to turn a profit.

How did we get to that figure? Well, new movies traditionally need to make approximately 2.5 times their original budget to break even due to additional costs such as fees to exhibitors, merchandising, and taxes.

The $4 million sum is the estimated production budget, while there are also marketing costs to consider, plus studios – in this case Sony and Crunchyroll – only keep about 50-60% of box office revenue (and even less from international markets).

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc box office total

As of October 27, 2025, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has made an estimated $17.3 million from 3,003 theaters in the US after its opening weekend.

That’s way over the $11 million-to-$15 million that was projected last week, while it’s an even stronger number when you take into account that the World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and LA Dodgers was proving to be a major distraction over the weekend.

When combined with the film’s $90.7 million foreign gross, Chainsaw Man already has a global total of $108 million. Meaning the movie is well into profit.

And that figure is set to rise, as the movie currently holds a critic rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, an audience score of 99%, and an A on CinemaScore, meaning word-of-mouth will be strong over the next few days.

As for the breakdown of that audience, THR reported that 75% were male, while 50% were under the age of 25.
