A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms launched with a debut episode that introduced diminutive squire Egg, and his huge master Dunk, but just how tall is man-mountain Ser Duncan?

House of the Dragon sequel and Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms tells the story of a ‘Hedge Night‘ competing in a deadly tournament.

We called it a “smaller, lighter” GOT spinoff, writing in our Knight of the Seven Kingdoms review, “With excellent cast performances, bone-crunching fight sequences, and a solid payoff, the result is a charming tale that respects Westeros without being crushed by it.”

Episode 1 just dropped on HBO Max in the US and Sky/Now TV in the UK, and has had everyone asking the same question…

How tall is Ser Duncan the Tall?

In the George R.R. Martin novels, Ser Duncan the Tall is described as being 6 feet 11 inches tall (2.11m).

We don’t get a sense of his full size in Episode 1’s opening scene, as aside from three horses and one dead body, Dunk is on his own.

But as soon as he enters an inn in the show’s second scene, he clearly towers over the landlady, who then offers him a choice of two dishes for dinner; lamb or duck. “Both,” says Dunk, to which she laughs while looking him up and down, and says “You’re big enough for it.”

Ser Duncan then hits his head on the top of door frames multiple times in the episode, underlining the fact that he’s too big for this world, while characters are constantly commenting on his size.

How tall is Peter Claffey?

Peter Claffey – who plays Ser Duncan the Tall – is 6 feet 5 inches tall (1.94m).

So while he’s smaller than the book version of Dunk, Claffey still towers over the majority of his co-stars in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

He also put that height to good use before pursuing acting, with Claffey a successful rugby player who was lock forward for Connacht Rugby from 2015-2019, and represented Ireland U20s at the Six Nations Championship in 2016.
